Photo Radar Speeding Ticket - Oregon

I got home last night from a hard day at the office only to be greated by a speeding ticket from Oregon's finest, and a photo radar one at that. I feel like this is cheating by the cops. Sure I was speeding, 44 in a 35...but still. Has anyone had success fighting these in Oregon or elsewhere?

Some beta: The photos are blury and it is impossible to tell who is driving. The ticket is for $125.

Search of forums revealed this thread http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...ht=Photo+Radar
however it is about running red lights and is not applicable to Oregon.

    Thanks in advance.

I guess so many Californians moved to Oregon that it is becoming California. I lived in Oregon up through the 90's and was SO glad that it wasn't like California with the photo ticket crackdown.

    Good luck fighting it.

Certainly, I will scan it when I get home. Probably opening myself up to some serious Photoshop alterations, but I have no fear.

Go out right now, and buy a radar detector. Don't ask questions, just do it. You won't regret it!

All they need to see is your license plate. if you are the owner of that car, you're responsible for the fine, since all drivers of that vehicle do so with your permission. AFAIK the only way out of one of these tickets id to prove your car had been stolen, and the only way to do that is to have a police report dated prior to that picture.

Pay the money and slow down in that section of road. At least it's no points on your license.

    I second the radar dedector.

A good one is $200- and it will probably save you twice that in tickets if you drive like me

There are probably tons of radar detector threads, but there are only two worth considering, Passport and Valentine. I prefer the passport.

isn't 44 in a 35 in the "9 miles and hour over" rule? that is SUCH bullshit. I hope they don't get those here. In NJ(the shittiest state ever) they time you going through the tolls with EZpass and if the time is too low, you get a ticket. though I am rarely in NJ, i will now never get an EZPass.

This doesn't make any sense to me. You're telling me if someone borrowed my car, ran down a pedestrian, and then returned it to me without telling me about what happened I'd be responsible because it was my car? I don't think that shit would really fly in court. Then again I'm not a lawyer, maybe our legal system really is that fucked up.

44 in a 35 isn't speeding, at least not around here. You have to be at least 10-12 mph over the limit for cops to even bat an eye in NJ, and it seems like most of NY too. That bites big time though, maybe that would explain that paranoid kid in Cali with a radar detector in his sports car who refused to drive more than 5mph over the limit.

In my experience you can narc on someone driving your car = they get the fine, or you can pay it yourself. Given the ratio of cars to people, not a bad assumption.

You got nailed dead to rights. Sack up and take your medicine like a man (and BSS gets a +10 for a sense of humour re his predicament)

    Beltronics=escort

the highest end beltronics is the same internally as the passport and can be found for $50 less.

It gets better - a buddy of mine is one of the DA's in Washington Couty, MD. He had a case where a dude borrowed his friend's car and used it to haul a shitload of Crack from a main distrubutor to several smaller dealers. He was busted for distribution, and the guy whose car was used got nailed for aiding and abetting. Lesson learned: don't lend your car to a sketchy friend. Ever.

stuckathuntermtn: I regularly drive an average of 80mph in a 65mph limit zone on the Jersey Turnpike from the Delaware Bridge to exit 4 (about 35 miles) non-stop every other weekend. I've used EZPass for the last 8 years and have NEVER gotten a ticket in the mail, so I think that may be an Urban Legend/Internet BS.

photo radar is so lame. and 44 in a 35 zone for $125? , lame x 2. it might rile them up a bit, but why don't you mail them a photo of 2 fifties, a twenty and a five? it won't get you any further ahead, but the satisfaction of playing tit for tat is probably worth it. Good luck, and slow down!

Incorrect, as far as I am aware. flykdog may have been drunk, but he was right when he said cars don't speed, people speed. They presume it was you driving if they can id the plate, but you don't have to show the car was stolen to get out of it. cj001f had it right, you can just rat someone else out.

However, fighting the ticket would put the OP in a difficult situation, even if the pic of the driver is too blurry to ID. Because to go to court to fight this, he'd probably have to a) lie and say it wasn't him, and b) say who it was (or come up with some other excuse for not knowing).

It sucks to get nailed for 9 over, but people are right, pay the ticket and move on (but within the limit this time ).

My boss fought one in Boulder and won. You couldn't make out the driver, he said it wasn't him and stuck to it.

If the letter wasn't sent registered mail, you can say you never recieved it. Of course, you'll have to deal with a bench warrant the next time you're pulled over. Viva la resistance!!
