Today exceeded all of my expectations. Awoke to a report of 8" and thought, 8" of light, fluffy snow on hard pack...won't be bottomless, will scrape off, need to stay on flatter terrain.
Get to the mountain and here that there is a foot up top. Good deal, still will be hitting bottom. Get to the top and was wow'ed by the first face of a foot, but still hit bottom. Skirted through some trees to ski some of the steeper stuff..yep, it sloughed. Headed over to Becks...10" covering an icy mogul field...got thrown around.
First run...as expected.
Second run...still snowing, blowing and accumulating. Hit up LSD, take the gut, well over a foot of blower snow. Dropping the knee, almost need a snorkel if you can believe it. Stayed on a mian run, which wasn't groomed and couldn't believe that it was still untracked.
Third, fourth, and fifth runs...The Enchanted Forest. The only other person skiing this area at the time was Josh, a patroller. "Moonshine all day," he said Laughing. Not a line crossed in 3 runs. Face full of pow, goat all iced up, snow in the pants and its still puking. Decide to head back to the car for some thirst quenching fluids and a change of skis. But something drew me back to Berryland. Good thing cause I finally hooked up with my ladt friend Jen and immediately said, LSD, follow me, and then the Enchanted Forest.
LSD...all i'll say is...submerged the entire time! and untracked!
A group is heading to where I would like to go so we pull a fake manuever and let them pass...ooops my buckles are undone...they pass and we drop into a gully, then onto a ridge and through some trees. So DEEEEEP and untracked.
Head back up to hit the Hogsback...soft slabs were forming but the skiing was dreamy! I took Jen out with a slough slide...sorry but weren't the turns good!!!!?
Heading out to the stash I encounter a rock. Didn't even see it. Ski hit and then wham! My knee tags it. Good thing for knee pads but somehow the rock did get under the one and bruise my knee pretty good. Gotta keep moving.
Enchanted Forest, not once but twice! It just kept getting deeper and deeper. The second run, all i saw of Jen was her shoulders and helmet between her turns. Just insane!
Exit run..was ok, skied some skied stuff and then hit up some truly desperate secret stashes on the way out...there were plenty but since I was near them, might as well. The turns were by far the deepest of the day. Skied the entire face, about 15 turns in a complete white out. Tagged a tree...should say, skied right into it. Bad way to stop, especially since you need to keep speed up at the bottom.
