the crickets are out in full force now. love that background sound on the bike or chilling with the windows open. it's a sure sign of the 'turn'. i'm surrounded by fields of grass and corn. it can be pretty loud.

As much as I dig winter...it just turned to fucking summer here in the Tetons 6 weeks ago. The damn bug hatches, (for fishing), have barely shown up. I'm not a mtn biker but that was a late season too!

The "Turn" is usually very exciting to me. This year....not so much. I want some summer fishing. I hope the "Turn" goes away but it ain't gonna happen.

    Here's to winter.

Yeah, I didn't notice this had been bumped before just now, but I thought of it today when I heard it was supposed to get down into the 40s tonight. Heck, the temp in my apartment is down to 75 and it isn't even midnight yet.

As I notice every year, when it is a little chilly when I swim is when I feel The Turn. It's a little chilly when I swim now, started this week.

Then again, we get our summer late (Sept/Oct) here in LA.

I just got back into my classroom and started planning for the upcoming school year, the smell of school books, dusty desks, and pencil sharperners starts The Turn for me.

Next should be a mountain bike ride with the smell and sound of dying leaves, then the color. I can't wait!

Dunno what turn you all are yapping about. Feels like it's still winter in the yay area... though it did stop raining.

looks like the hottest week of the summer coming up for UT. i'm fine with waiting on it this year after the year we just had, as long as it hits hard late is fine.

It's early. Yesterday, we stepped off a corned up glacier and hiked miles of dusty and bug-infested trail back to the car. Maybe it's the turn before the turn; it's muted but unmistakeable.

Yellow leaves in the grocery store parking lot this morning; dark clouds looming on the walk to work. A cool and humid storm rolled through Seattle today, snow level below 13,000'. There's fresh snow on Rainier. Wind, smooth and constant, on the dark walk home. It'll be a while, but it's coming.

Alright goddamnit, I got bit today. Spent the last week in three different hot fucking cities, and today I finally got up into some mountains (not my mountains, but real damn mountains anyway) and I got bit. I'm starting to feel the need for some turns. That said, I'm going to enjoy what remains of summer and fall while it lasts.

the following image illustrates, in no uncertain terms, that The Turn has indeed arrived for the forum. the lack of JONG-ing in the original thread where this appeared is an illustration that you're all slacking.

Already had the first snow on august 28th, with some of the trees really starting to show their fall colors now.

Yesterday at 7am, too chilly to eat breakfast outside, a sure sign of the massive dumps of winter!

All righty, I'm calling it. I realize peeps are still out hiking and mountain biking, but I feel winter is coming. The strong north breeze of fall is kicking hard tonight - I was nearly blown of Mission Peak. My favorite Sierra peaks have this years dust upon the ragged remains of last winter's fine mantle. With highs barely cracking 60 at 6000 feet, it won't be long.

    psst! Ullr, listening?

No way.. "the turn" has not yet occurred. This is an irrefutable fact and those that say it have are deluded and are like those people that start putting up Christmas lights in October.
    Beware false prophets.
I will let you know when "the turn" actually occurs. Only soul skiers know..the rest are just wannabees.
