I am thinking about getting one of these:

We have sit-on-tops but not specifically outfitted for fishing. You can soup these things up pretty easily though...using rivets & such...to install fishing pole holders etc.

Now that we have the 'yaks up in VT we plan to go out and do some lake fishing in them. I'll let you know how it goes, and post some pics after this weekend.

I'm pretty stoked to get out and try this. Hope I don't get flipped by some giant lake trout (or maybe I do!).

Have never used a sit on top, but i used to fly fish out of a closed top sea kayak all the time. Took some getting used to, but was always a blast. If the fish weren't biting you could always just go for a good paddle. They make some with foot pedals (kind of like a paddle boat) so you can steer while casting (which would make it much easier to fish out of). I am not too up on kayaking stuff though, i am sure someone else here can be of much more help.

So I bought a used Malibu eXtreme off of ebay and made the 4 hour trip to the coast to pick it up last week.

For $600 bucks, I now have another sport to funnel my limited money supply to. I added a new paddle and a fish finder this weekend and we are ready to go

So today I get up at the butt crack of dawn and drive to Latta Plantation and launch at sunrise.

I have never paddled before and have slightly more experience freshwater fishing. I paddle over to this point at the blistering speed of 3 mph according to my GPS and see some largish looking fish feeding on the surface.

I was introduced to Teri Gar.

I had so much fun, I decided to take an afternoon trip with my kid. When I snapped this picture, I didn't notice the guy in the background grabbing his cock

Next time, I will attemt to catch something that I can kill it and skillit

Nice TR mrryde! Love the photo of your daughter on the banks. WTF is that fish? Terri Gar...lol

We just did a really long kayak fishing trip this past Sunday along the lakes off route 103 in Ludlow, VT. But I didn't take many pics (too much going on w/ 2 kids, all the fishing gear, etc).

Too bad, b/c we had quite a few adventures along the way...such as running "five-inch" rapids. This worked fine for the kids, but the parents ended up having to drag the kayaks quite a bit! Hoping for some rain this week so we can have it a bit easier going from lake-to-lake next time.

No keeper fish were caught, but the kids did manage to hook some sunfish from the banks and were happy enough w/ that. All in all, I guestimate this may have been a five mile paddle w/ some kayak-dragging and negotiating the kayak over some falls, etc. Tiring day for sure, but my arms look pretty buff after all that!

That would be a Gar, which is some sort of prehistoric relic, that is apparantly not all that tasty

That fish is an interesting fellow.

I can't remember what month it was but Paddler Magazine had an issue a couple back devoted to fishing. Might give you some good info if you are getting into kayak fishing.

AtomicTwinStix regularly pulls trout from his boat after going swimming in the Nantahla. You should PM him for his exact technique.

I should probably change my username to IReallyDon'tTeleMuchAnymoreDave.
