How are the goods OB near Loveland ski area? Beta needed ... Sick of 5 mountain crowds/scene - skied both Vail/et al + Loveland a lot and if Loveland has good gate access now, to the BC, then ... then Loveland after 6 years of 5 mountain runs.

Tight budget too so it's either ABasin or Loveland for me ... and the mandatory 7 day Aspen pass of course

Shera knows alot about that. I know Trelease is a short hike from the top of 8, and then there's the stuff off of 1, but I've never been to either. I would like to someday, though.

Personally, I get a kick out of hiking around the Ridge when it's 100 % open. It's like inbounds backcountry if you know what I mean.

But the best part is pulling off the interstate and watching the rest of Denver go through the tunnel.

hmmm....it's getting down to crunch time for me, and I need to make a decision on which pass(es) to buy. What about that uber-pass that let's you ski 24 mountains in Colorado? hahaha, I could never afford that. I would just buy new sticks instead.

    Loveland 4pack = $89
Loveland Early season ticket = $20
Comp from Loveland Crew = Free

    That's $109 for 6 days at Loveland.

I think about 6/50 or so days I get to gape around Loveland is pretty good.

Squatch: DOOOO IT (if you don't like driving and want a consistent ride to the mountains).

I am looking forward to something different. Just skiing somewhere I haven't and skiing AFTER race training.

And yes, chair 9 is what I meant. Confused that with chair 6 at... one of the Tahoe Resorts? KW, maybe?

    -free parking
    -cheap food

-not as many gapers as other areas

    stuff that sucks:
    -on the small side
    -cold

thats seriously all i can think of thats bad about the area. loveland + colorado is pretty hard to beat.
Nicely said Adam. except you forgot one bad thing, its windy. but its an awesome area.

I was thinking I'd ski Loveland full-time 10/29-11/20, live in my car/camp, and likely never use the pass again after 11/20. Just a Cali guy getting a an early start on the season. See you guys then.

Loveland sucks. There is no good backcountry access. The chair one gate has been permanently closed so don't even bother looking for it or any other gates anymore, the stuff back there is usually sunbaked anyway. As for the pillow lines they're extremely dangerous (almost unskiable). Chair 9 is way too cold and windy, so is chair 6. The snow is always funky and deep and is really had to ski unless you have those "fat" powder skis. Trust me, if you haven't been to Loveland yet, or you've been there and didn't find any good terrain, don't even waste your time looking for it. The only good thing about Loveland is the locals, they're pretty cool, don't follow them though, they're don't know where any good terrain is either.

    Look how flat it is.

    No challenging terrain at all.

Just kidding, except for the part about following the locals.

Seriously, If you decide to go OB, plan to go with someone who already knows the area and current conditions well. Don't just follow someone out of a gate. There's ALOT of windload and some very dangerous terrain if you make a wrong turn.

When skiing Loveland I think of Mesopotamia ... old school B-52s album.

I've skied Luvland and had some sweet days - no crowds and lapped it up - 6 awesome turns in that superbowl area ... not super steep but BC might be a good call when caked and baked right - beaconed of course, that shit goes all the time up there.

Aspen/Highlands and Loveland for the fix in between ... Colorado sucksn't.
