minor threat are only unerrated if you do not have to deal with guys who are into emo/hardcore.
otherwise you constantly hear how great and how important they are/were.

    wait a second.
i said: "iggy pop" not "the stooges"
and after clearing this up my opinion still stands. i just don't like most of his stuff. it is ususally repetitive and not even the big "hits" do it for me.(im talking about his great time back then, we don't want to speak of any of his recent albums do we ?) and since i've seen him live i'm even more convinced that he's mediocre.

And you're so wrong on VU, mr. plaque. "Loaded" alone is a landmark.

    Pearl Jam overrated?

The only people who give a damn about them are the fans. Press barely pays attention to them. They turned their back on a major label, shunned MTV at their peak, and took a stand against Ticketmaster. Show me one current band as big as Pearl Jam that even dared something equivalent to at least one thing on that list.

Show me a band that plays as varied a set lists and draws so deeply out of their catalog. They give there all for each show.

hehe. i thought this and iggy would cause some internet trouble...
i guess my rejection of VU comes from my youth where everybody who was "indie" had a phase where he/she listend to the doors (which i hereby call overrated as well ) and VU. And you just HAD to think that they are SO GREAT.
I guess there is just "old stuff" which i can relate to more. like mc5, the who and so on.

edit: hey tarkman: you just said what they have done and how they perform. my judgement for calling them overrated comes from the albums, which do not always contribute to the "legend" when you hear them without being a total fan.

CVB was slated to play a local pub when they found out that Joan Jett was scheduled to play after them. They cancelled and went and played a 3 hour free set at the Blue Moon in the U-District. Freaking ROCKIN' show.

the fact that you feel he tries too hard, makes him overrated? haha. Warren Haynes couldn't be any more humble. Whether or not you like him is one thing, but to call the man "overrated" is a joke.

One way or another, you're letting other people influence your opinion.

    very cool!
yea, the best cvb shows i've seen are the evening with... shows when they play 2 long sets.

they played a free slopeside show at killington the final weekend of 05...i couldn't have choreographed a better way to close that one out if i'd set it up myself...i usually have to drive 3 hours to see 'em, but they actually played the local band bar in albany the previous nite to boot. much drinking - little driving

i taped the killington show...it sounds great, but for missing the first 3 songs while trying to get in one last run

I saw them in concert (I was working) and I have to say, that while they really seemed to be trying very hard, I thought they were kinda lame, the sound was terrible, the guitars were out of tune, and they seemed to be quite self impressed. On the bright side, I didn't hurl.

i've never been a big fan of pearl jam but have to give them props for - on top of the varied setlists - releasing their a whole tour of shows on cds a few years back - and bringing some great under-appreciated bands on the road with them - sonic youth and the buzzcocks come to mind first. i saw the buzzcocks in the local band bar on one of their nights off from touring w/pearl jam, and they absolutley slammed! no doubt from returning to a club setting after getting to play for huge crowds - that probably dug 'em.
