I had a ok time in employee housing at Kirkwood my on the other hand my GF did not she was scared most of the time. But Security is a great job a kid in our pod or floor or what ever had that gig and he did it at night so he could ski all day. The best part for him was he had a radio and thats how he would check in so he just hang out drink, party or what ever and no one ever knew.
People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

If your just starting there be careful what you post on this site. I personally know that Jeff Walters (Moutain Manager) keeps tabs on what is said about Kwood on these forums. I have worked with your new boss Brian Reed for many years in the Parking department. He's a good guy. Always willing to help out in tough situations. I may have a room open in a 4 bed house in meyers but won't find out till like mid sept. i'll keep you updated.

Almost everyone I know at Kirkwood lives in South Lake/Myers/Xmas Valley (it's all essentially the same). Commute options include taking the bus, carpooling with other employees, or using your thumb.
Don't live in Markleeville or Gardnerville unless you have a family and are looking for a white picket fence. South Lake is much better for young single people.
Your only real option at Kirkwood is Animal House. Whether you like it or not, it'll be a pain in the ass. If you need to go to the market, pharmacy, or even a decent bar you'll have to go to South Lake. Basically, South Lake will offer you the most well rounded living situation. Everything else is either too remote or too boring.
And whatever you do, don't live in North Lake if you're working at the Wood 5 days a week. You will hate yourself.
Use AKAs link to find housing or hook up with Nuthon. Housing availability follows seasonal trends. The best time to find a place is in the fall and spring when the town is changing over from summer to winter and vice versa.
Edit: And just so you know, this is coming from someone who lives in South Lake and has spent a shit load of time at the Wood.
