Photo software for my parents
My folks live on a boat and see lots of cool stuff. My mom has always been into print photography for a long time and recently jumped into digital with a fancy Nikon D100 with a couple lenses and she is buying a nice point and shoot for more casual photography. Her photo software sucks. It's a pain to manage her library, it's creates duplicate files upon imports, and it will only support her Nikon, but her new point and shoot will likely be of another brand. I've been using iPhoto for years and love it for my humble needs, but my folks are on a Windows machine.
Here's what the software needs to do:
- import photos from multiple camera brands and other sources (like CDs or the web)
- burn photo CDs directly from the program
- cropping, horizon adjustments, sharpening and other basic effects
- slideshows
- easy library management and organization (like making filenames and tags intuitive)
- work on Windows
- extremely simple to learn and easy to access most of the functionality for non-computer people
My folks are not dumb, but they are not savy with the computer. They only need to do minor photo tweeking, not full on photoshop heavy lifting. They are very frustrated with Nikon's Picture Project software that comes with thheir cameras.
What do you non-geek digi-photogs use?
