    Wheeler Pass TR : 07.22.2006

Took a spin up Wheeler Pass Saturday morning, had to burn some calories before the first Breckenridge Beer Fest.

I was informed by some friends that the 'proper' way to ride this is to do Wheeler Pass -> Frisco recpath -> Peaks Trail. Someday soon I'll do it again, but I had beer to drink and didn't want to be gone all day

    Stats:
    Ride Time : 4:30
Total Ascent : 3,900ft (600 was paved from Frisco back to Breck)
    Total Descent : 3,300ft
Total Mileage : 25 + (computer was acting up on the downhill)

Sorry no action shots, I was solo and couldn't get a timed shot to work (camera jong)

Riding up the Peak 9 road.

    Still climbing..

Looking north toward Peak 8, Imperial Express and Chair 6 from the intersection of the Wheeler Trail and Peak 9 road.

Feel like skiing? A snowfield below Peak 9 (tracks likely laid by fellow maggots)

Ahh, finally some singletrack...Wheeler pass zig-zags between the snow fields straight ahead.

Up on Wheeler Pass (12,460ft). Looking East back towards Breckenridge from the top.

Looking west from the summit. Copper Mountain straight ahead, Gore Range off to the right.

The obligatory point photo! 4 miles and 3,000ft of downhill ahead!

    More singletrack goodness.

    Smoove as butter

The trail dropped right onto the Frisco - Copper - Breck recpath.

Ending the day at the Beerfest was nice. $25 for all you could 'sample'. Had a good list of brewery's on site as well. (http://www.breckenridgebeerfestival.com/)

That is a great trail...hell of a brake smoker on the way down..its so smooth and fast and you def. have to shut it down for some of those blind fallaway turns. I did it freeride slacker style tho....got shuttled a ways up peak 9, pedalled/pushed over the top, rode down, then took the bus back from Frisco to Breck....we did have to climb about 2 miles up French Gulch back to the house.
Starting Peaks trail in Frisco, then going up and over might be the ticket if you were gonna go all hardcore.
    Nics pics.

    I rode lifts today.

Yeah, was a good ride. I thought about taking the stage once I got to the gold hill area, but the bike racks were all filled up with gaper rentals when it went past me.

were you over at keystone today?

Yup. The new step up on Motorhead (former second tabletop) is interesting, as are the two doubles on the option line toward the bottom of Mosquito Coast. Its fun riding new stuff every time I go up there. Sessioned the wallride a few times too...its hard to go high on that, the kicker doesn't really line you up right.
