    Speaking of Avy safety...

These couple of threads (new and old) about avalanche safety and gear got me thinking about Moonlight Basin, and its new ski terrain. Why is this terrain which is above in-bounds ski runs open to people without avalanche gear? Jack Merde?

    Wink

I finally heard that the other day and couldn't believe it. Oh well, I'm sure there aren't slides on that stuff anyway.

Well, you can tell it never slides because there is so much snow that it covers all the trees that are growing there and anchoring everything in place. We're talking old growth and tons of snow. My guess is you would find the tops of the trees 6, maybe 7 inches under the surface.

But hey, if it makes you feel any safer, I hear the MTA cliffs are permanently closed for our own safety.
