Introducing the newest member of our familly... Talley

As some of you may read, two weeks ago my girlfriend and I lost our not quite 2-yr old lab Tasker to a sudden and unexpected aneurysm. Its easily the hardest thing I've gone through in my life (call me fortunate, I guess). However, our other lab Yoshi was very close to him and they went everywhere as a pair... so there was no way we could leave him as an only dog for very long. It was tough, but we decided to adopt another lab from Safe Harbor Lab Rescue in Golden.

On the day that Tasker passed away, the rescue received Talley (call it a sign) from the shelter in Grand Junction as a stray. I'm not sure how anyone could let a lab this cute get away... but luckily for us, she's now ours. She's so sweet and gets along with Yoshi perfectly (knock on wood). We look forward to giving her the best life a lab could have in Colorado.

Awesome. Labs are the greatest. She looks very happy in her new home. I'm sure the two will get along just fine.

Yahoooooooooo! Yay for Talley, Yoshi and for your family!

I just adopted a new rescue dog earlier this week, but am having the same success of the two dogs getting along. They completely ignore each other and jockey for my attention, which is oh-so-sad for me. But we're working hard to see if we can make this match work.

    Yahoo for rescue dogs!

Yeah, they're so great- there's an instant bond between her and me- she's attached at the hip already. Plus, she and Yoshi are both so young that they want to play all the time- so they do!

WSD- dont' get discouraged just yet. When we had our first lab and got Yoshi, three days into it they got into some huge fights. We just let it work itself out and they ended up getting along as well as we could ever hope.

Congrats, that's awesome! Good for them to have each other to play with, and another huge KUDOS on going to a rescue!

First, I take my hat off to anyone who has the balls to rescue a mutt. I think it can be a big risk - children, cats, tampax vending machines etc all stand a risk of being randomly nipped by adopted dogs for the strangest of reasons. It's an admirable risk, but a risk none the less. I'm a total 'puppy to doggy nirvana above Luton' sort of bloke - it's so much easier to instill nurture mechanisms from puppy age. Props to anyone who takes on a dog, good luck to you - that dog certainly has struck lucky and I hope it all works out.

Nope. Since I grew up in the Buffalo area, she's named after one of the great Bills linebackers, Daryl Talley. Our dog that we lost two weeks ago to the aneurysm was named Tasker, after the greatest special teams player ever, Steve Tasker.

Was her name Talley when you got her from Safe Harbour? I thought that pup looked familiar! I got my lab last year from Safe Harbour Lab Rescue, and frequently check to see the new dogs. What a cutie!

LaBelle- she never actually made it to the website- we're fostering her now, but assuming she gets along well with our other lab Yoshi, she's a keeper. Her name before coming to SHLR was Sugar.

Which lab did you adopt from Safe Harbor? I keep up pretty regularly with what they have going on.

I adopted Bella, formerly Belle last May when she was 8 months old. She's a black lab, and had a brother also in SHLR I think named Chip who was a chocolate. Do you foster very often?

No, we don't ever foster... we got our first two from SHLR- one over a year ago, and the second this past New Years. Unfortunately our oldest lab (23 months old) passed away two weeks ago, so we wanted to get another fairly quickly for our other dog. I guess you could say we're fostering Talley, but we're pretty certain we'll adopt her and make her ours.

She went swimming for the first time today and it was a success! She just has to stop biting Yoshi when he has the frisbee.
