Bellingham Mountain Rescue volunteers completed four search-and-rescue missions on four mountains Saturday, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.
The first rescue was of a 32-year-old Seattle woman who slid nearly 100 feet while skiing with friends on Table Mountain. She was flown to St. Joseph Hospital, where she was treated for a dislocated shoulder and released.
Another injured skier was rescued from Mount Shuksan. The 20-year-old Orting woman was skiing down the north side of the mountain with friends when she caught her ski on hard ice and slid about 100 feet. She lost consciousness after the fall and was flown to St. Joseph Hospital to receive treatment for a broken leg.
The third rescue took place on Mount Baker, where a 52-year-old Seattle woman fell 100 feet while climbing. She suffered a head injury and lost consciousness after the fall. Skagit Mountain Rescue worked with Bellingham Mountain Rescue to aid the woman. She was flown to St. Joseph Hospital to be treated for facial injuries. She remained in the hospital for observation Sunday.
Three Whatcom County teens, two 18 and one 16, called search and rescue when they realized they were lost on Sumas Mountain. Volunteers used the hikers' cell phones to locate them and took them off the mountain.
A U.S. Navy rescue helicopter from Whidbey Island Naval Base was used to retrieve and transport the injured people in the first three rescues.
