    FKNA, Got my upgrade

It finally happened. After winning a Cat 3 road race in April I applied for it, got denied. Then about three weeks ago, I won a stage race by winning the prologue, taking 3rd in the road race, 2nd in the TT and winning the crit. (sorry if it's too dick wavey). Anyway, super psyched. Don't know that I'll be winning races anytime soon, but I'm pretty sure I can still place well and finally race with teammates.

Hard work pays off I guess. I'm sure racing with these guys will be pretty mindblowing though.

not knowing "exactly" what you got is confusing, cause I know nothing of how road racing works. It sounds like you are psyched though. Upgrade from what to what? Congrats on the placings.

Congratulations on your move up to Cat 2. Also, congrats on your recent successes. Are you still riding the Cervelo?

IG, I sold the cervelo and am riding argon18's now. I love both of em, roadie and TT.

Crinkle, there are different racing levels from cat 5 (beginner) to cat 1 (essentially pro riders without contracts). Usually, they race the pros/cat 1/cat 2 fields together because there are very few pro's and 1's at local races. Sometimes they'll separate them for regional races. Anyway, you're required to get enough points in one category in order to move up to the next.

So, if I'm realistic, cat 2 is likely the end of the line for me, I'll never be a cat 1. However, I think I can compete with most of the 1/2's in UT. We'll see though. The biggest thing is being able to race with a team since I was the only 3 on the team I'm racing with now.

Sounds like a lot of obnoxious rules to me...but at least it (in theory) avoids the ever-present sandbagging so prevalent in NORBA.

p.s. congrats phil! don't mean to sound pissy...

thanks for the explination, great accomplishment. looks like you made short work of the Cat 3 guys, whipping up a bunch of points quickly.

Good job Phil! Keep on killing it!

No, no... there's still plenty of sandbagging. Just not from guys like Phil, who are actually racing at the correct cat. Nice work, mang!

Edit: I should say, before wintermittent calls my ass out, that I'm quite a sandbagger myself and am scared to death of upgrading. This makes me 2x impressed with Phil's Cat2. Nice work, mang!
    It's idomatic, beatch.

Thanks everyone, it's going to be an interesting second half of the year. I raced my first pro/1/2 race last weekend, a local twilight crit. Pretty fun racing in the dark, interesting though. It was definitely faster than a cat 3 crit, but that wasn't the hard part. The hard put was the additional 10-15 minutes. I felt like I was totally on the brink the last little bit, just praying everytime we came around that they would call 3 laps to go. I swear it was a 2 hour crit. I ended up in the middle of the field somewhere, which was relatively small, maybe 30 guys. It was fun though.

ulty, I ride the Gallium and Mercury. Both bikes are super fun. I know one guy who rides the krypton and he really likes it. I don't think you can go wrong with an argon, IMO of course, but I really like mine.
