Tech stuff at the top of LCC Quarry trail

It happened about a week ago - anyone know who ripped up all the technical stuff at the top of the Quarry trail? Why would someone do that?! Doubles, bridge, balance logs - all gone! Only thing left is a small log clearance obstacle and the Pile that drops straight down about 6 feet. Whoever did it, did a nice job of cutting everything up and spreading the remains. So, first question is who did it? Second question is (unless there is a good explanation for why it was destroyed) who wants to help rebuild it?

forest service. for obvious reasons. and now that they're onto it, they'd likely go back and check for illegal obstacles being rebuilt.

Utsnowgirl & phatfreeheeler reported it earlier this week...

For sure it was the forest service? Why would they leave the two remaining obsticles? I guess that qualifies as a good enough reason not to rebuild it for now.

edit: ah... I just read the Maggette thread. I hadn't seen the info in there on the trail. Being a man, I am sometimes afraid to go in that thread - might not be welcome(sarcasm)

Damn, had to bring it up again didn’t ya.

I don’t know for sure, but I bet the forest service actually knew about these trails for quite some time. I’m told that they closed and destroyed a super ninja built trail that came down from White Pine TH a few years ago. It’s pretty logical to assume that if they found that one they found this at the same time but decided it wasn’t worth destroying. I would guess that this was finally taken out for one of two reasons. Either there were too many complaints about people rallying down the main trail (some in full faces and armor) or too many people were talking and the forest service once again was notified (ie. Brought back to the surface) that the trail existed. Maybe a combo of the two. Either way, yeah it sucks

This is why we must keep quiet(and ride slow on connector trails) when we find/build these types of trails. Ideally we could get a legal way created to go about building such trails. I personally don’t know what that would be, especially since the users are not the most politically vocal or a very large group. The group building the stuff around Kimble Junction (Basin Rec. I think) is a good start, but is a long way from sanctioned north shore style building. Where Skiingbear and I came from, they have a 3 foot rule and allow a ton of cool stuff to be built without much fuss as long as it isn’t taller than that. Above that, it needs railings.

I'm new to this style of riding myself, but it has totally rejuvinated me for mountain biking. I will do whatever I can to help if people want to work on bringing legal North Shore style building to Utah.

My buddie was riding LLC two or three weeks ago. When he was on the upper section by the stunts, he passed two rangers. they dident say anything to him, but he said they were looking at that stuff. I think It was only a matter of time b4 the number of stunts, people, and talk lead to them doing something. I wouldent start putting stuff up just yet. They are bound to keep and eye on it for a while.

Forget the rickety NS wannabe stuff in there, that was tried a few years ago with the same results, except that time it lasted almost the whole summer. A good, flowing, legal trail through there would be awesome, but the stuff that was built a few years ago was just unsafe junk and brings immediate closure. That canyon is waaay too high traffic for anything stealthy to be built. In 2004 they cut down about 70-100 trees to block off the trail down from the campground.
    I hate crappy wooden stunts.
