    pretty good gig, this bunnery.

I guess that's why most of the day shifters have been there for 10+ years....... (when I went for my interview I thought around $300 a day was bullshit) Not so sure how much they make in the winter, but it is def. crazy everyday all summer.

Ask her if she knows a Texan by the name of Carter that works there. He and his fiance Amberlee are friends of mine.

edit- I mean Texan by birth, not by attitude.

[hijack]So since I originally asked the questions I think I can side bar the initial question for more JH related inquiries.

I know this will sound random but I'm trying to get a lot of loose end shit done before heading out.

Does Wyoming have any laws requiring you to get a Wyoming state drivers license or register your car there if you are staying for X amount of time? I've heard of some states having these. The reason I'm asking is because my car is still under mom's insurance and if this is the case I have to switch over to my own plan.

I really appreciate all the input so far on jobs and passes and everything else and can't fucking wait to start the trip out there in oct. Oh, and since we haven't finalized all of our route any suggestions on must see favorites along the way would not suck.

you have to get wyoming plates in 30 days, technically, but I don't think you need a new drivers license. BTW, you are more likely to get pulled over by Teton county sheriffs with out of state plates, especially east coast. wyoming is a super cheap place to register and insure cars, at least it used to be.

what car are you driving? wyoming isn't *that* cheap to register your car (at least not any more). they go off a percentage of the sale price of the car (original MSRP). the rate declines for about 10 years and then stays the same every year.

you can legally keep your current license for a year, but you are supposed to switch your plates.

for what it's worth, i drive a 12-year-old landcruiser, and they charge me $170/year, which is as low as it will ever get.

if you were, say, to live in victor, registration in idaho is *much* cheaper. i would think it would be pretty reasonable on your car, though.

the soj has been gone for many a year now. i believe that the management at the alpenhof is much better then it was in the nineties...MJ is the GM there i believe. its a good place to work and you can pretty much ski right into the employee locker room when there's enough snow. you can also stash your gear there so you don't have to haul it all over the place. jack dennis still has a place right under the 'hof that they rent out so you can hook up the shop guys with grub in turn for tunes and deals. there is a 'tub club' in the village where i used to work part-time...was cool back in the day when locals used to hang there and my boss got a pass...not sure if they still offer that or not, but contact JHPM and ask them about it.

I'm pretty sure the law is now within 90 days if you work in Teton County. Registering for the first time is definitely not cheap, but renewals are somewhat reasonable. My old Subie was somewhere around $65/year. I know plenty of guys that have been here for years though and still have out of state plates. You get a warning the first time you get pulled over and then you just have to make sure that you don't get pulled over again.

hey droopy...before you pack up the car, the place kush1 is talking about is (a) jamming because it's summer; (b) has tons of outdoor seating that is definitely less popular when temps are in the 80s rather than the 0s; and (c) is, by and large, a breakfast/brunch/lunch spot, so if you're working 5 days/week there, you're night skiing at the 'King.

    Update Q:

Skijunky and I have been checking out the classifieds for housing and I know that its still a bit away from the end of Oct/Nov 1, but there doesn't seem to be too much in the way of housing. Do things typically clear up in Sept/Oct and more becomes listed for Nov 1 lease dates or is it really going to be difficult to find housing? We already know we're gonna have to split up into most likely 3 places as it doesn't seem like there are many 4+ bedroom houses for rent.

Sidebar, what are the typical temps (nighttime) during the last two weeks of Oct, as we are planning on camping until we can find somewhere to move into. 3+ season tents and 0 degree bags cover it or are we talking even colder temps around this time?

Just wanted to ease some worries/thoughts that have been going through my head

There will definitely be more places listed in November as people come into town for the winter - just checking the classifieds. All the places you mentioned would be great to work at. My good friend is the manager at the Calico - I know she is hiring bussers and servers for the winter - I would give her a call now. They get 25% off august prices. I manage a market/wine shop in the village and I am going to need a bunch of new employees this winter and we offer 15% off aug prices. The pay is pretty good and you can ski all day and get discounts on wine/beer/booze.
Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn.

hey, man... things are really quieting down around town, and i think people (landlords) will start focusing on fall/winter as the summer 90-day-wonders head out.

october nights can be a little frosty - but you should be fine in a zero degree bag. november nights on the other hand...

I’ll echo the two above posts. The housing market will definitely open up in the next few weeks. You may see more adds as early as early as the week after Labor Day with landlords looking to fill places for Oct 1. I just did a quick search and hit these:
    http://www.jacksonholeapartments.com/
    http://www.evergreenmanagement.com/

It looks like the Evergreen folk don’t have anything, but they will after summer and I didn’t see any availability info on the other site. Both are property management companies so if you enjoy the finer things in life that an absentee landlord would never now about (wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more, say no more) you might want to stick to the classifieds.

A three season tent and zero degree bags should do you well in October.
