Next season you can lash all 240 lbs of me and my gear to your back and slog me up the hill. That should get you into really good shape...Originally Posted by iskibc

You could carry my water. I don't mind being babysat. Berko fed me goo and lent me his extra crampons and brought beer. Obviously the caring sort.
What is that? You can't crack 5 minutes on your mile times.Originally Posted by iskibc

I want to modify that sled to keep everybody on running boards. No towing.

Dang, Berko hooked it up. I need to get out with him more often. Except, he doesn't need to feed me his goo.
Lotta protein there. Might be just what you need.Originally Posted by iskibc

I've been using Dynafits with brakes for 3-4 years now, and I've been on just about every iteration of the Fritschi over the last 9-10 years.Originally Posted by Trackhead
Dynafit brakes work just fine. Yes, they can make rotating the heel a touch harder, but saying it is "next to impossible" is misleading. Perhaps if you have not used the brakes much, yours were not "broken in". After a few times, it does get easier.
Also, traveling through avy terrain is safer with the brakes than leashes.
When I'm standing above a rappel or putting my skis on in any terrain >45 degrees, I've generally chopped out a (small) platform. I find that's pretty much mandatory in order to step into any binding. The leashes could help the ski from totally taking off...but at the some point you have to remove the leash in order to really move the ski around.
The brakes do a great job of holding the ski in place on that platform that you just chopped.
My Dynafits have only ever released maybe once that I can recall. That said, for my skiing, if they *did* release, I'd want the skis away from -- not attached to -- me. But that is just my preference.
Fritschis have issues (they are heavy, for instance), but they have many amazing points. They are also quite reliable.
Dynafits, too, have many fantastic traits (love mine), but they're not as solid for any folks who need a cross-over binding. I push mine hard and occasionally even ride lifts with them, but they wouldn't handle *that* much of it...and, well, their release characteristics don't make it that safe for your joints when set near the top of their scale. (DIN 10 is not that high for folks around here.)
Fritschi's bindings were revolutionary, and they still continue to make people mobile. Don't knock them for that.
Dyanfits are more evolutionary than revolutionary ...but they are no less mind-blowing than one's first BC tour on Fritschis. They open up lots of new terrain.
That said, it's cool if folks use *any* gear to get out in the BC...whether that's Spats + 916s + Trekkers + Alpine boots or F1s + Dynafit Ti's + Trabs. It's all good.
Remember, Bill Briggs was up there killing it on what (?!?!) gear. I think that was before Dynafits or Fritschis were around. I'm sure he'd be psyched on either binding. Then again...we could call him and ask. He's in the phone book!
Peace.

My running has been lacking. Sub 5 minute miles are tough. I haven't cracked that barrier since college. Just signed up for the Idaho Springs-Georgetown half marathon though. Don't really know what the hell I was thinking, but figured it would be a fun test. Hopefully that will be enough to motivate me and get going again.Originally Posted by Joey Joe Joe Junior Shabadoo

Edit: A half marathon is about twice as far as I would ever voluntarily run. But then again I hate running, although my girlfriend is trying to cure of that.

Lighter gear just gives people more options. That said, if you want to get fit and only have x amount of time to get in that workout...but all means, take a 40-pound mountain bike on your road ride, wear alpine boots, hike with cast iron pots hanging off your pack...
If you keep speed and time constant, then it's obvious that for a given workout length, you will do less work with lighter gear. But generally you can do more, faster, longer with the light/right gear -- you can always choose to get further out there and get the cardio.
It all has it's place.
Duh! We've already discussed this! You're selling your soul to the devil when you become a lawyer... so you might as well start earlier by turning to the darkside of the Dynafit world.... you Darth Vedor type....Originally Posted by Rontele
