I can't help it if EVERYONE on TGR is slow to evolve. Hint, hint..........

Iskibc, Gramps, Altapowderdaze, Powstash....these guys finally figured it out.

I literally feel sorry for people when I see them skinning with Freerides.

Oh, and did you here the news, Gramps wants to start rando racing. F-1's, sissy stix, all that euro crap. Youth.

He's not smiling because he's standing in a flowery meadow, he's smiling because evolution has allowed him the pleasure of moving with ease and efficiency. And this has allowed him to ski further, higher, faster.

    Used here, maybe not necessary.

But, have you ever taken your ski off, above a rappel, on a 50 degree slope? That's when leashes make life a whole lot easier. They keep your ski from rocketing down the mountain when you slip taking your ski off. They also make it easier to put back on when you're perched on 50. And, they give you something easy to hold onto while you organize your chaos before a rap.

    I know, I know! I believe!

You planted the seed a couple of years ago, I guess. Then I saw them in action last year: http://tetongravity.com/forums/showt...ight=ptarmigan

We had a good long conversation then, and I wasn't ready. I had some other goals, which have been pretty much accomplished. My explosivs will be mounted with alpine binders next season. And I have made a deal with the devil for some dynafits.

I think that's really great! Dood, I would do it too if I could figure out how to make my skins stick more than once.

I'm sorry but you are making me laugh. That meadow was full of poppy flowers and that smile will last for days!

Seriously, I have my heart set on skiing a lot of lines in the Gore Range over the coming years. It's my backyard mountains. I'm sure Dave has told you something about it. Further, higher, faster is exactly what I need. Here's just one valley that I couldn't get all the way up because I was carrying about 80 lbs of gear.

Ooops, maybe that's what Brett told me then . Beautiful spot though. You were so damn close to some of the best lines in the northern Gore. Send me some more of your pics from that trip. They may come in handy.

I'll be working on the book Thursday-Saturday.

    Wunnerful!

Joe Beater took a ton of great shots. He did a day trip and managed to actually go skiing. I'll send those along right now.

I feel sorry for people who have to listen to my Freerides clacking all day. I know it irritates me, and I am on the damn things.

Freeride is a misnomer. There's nothing free about hauling that shit around all day.

Hey, at least I took them off my Chubbs and put them on a lighter ski. WTF was I thinking?

But still on Alpine boots. For us boarders who dabble in the ski thing, the one quiver set up works fine.

For you "Summiteers", I can see the light for damn sure.

I have both Freerides and dynafidgits. Still use the Freerides plenty!

The baseplate of my 05 dynafits snapped in half when I poked it with my pole in some cold weather, and one of the ski brakes ripped off in a fall, sending one of my skis for a ride down half of mt hood. I can't believe they control front release with that weak piece of plastic. Basically I can't lock out the front anymore.

Yeah there are plenty of freeride horror stories but my original ones are still going strong after a ton of resort time and multiple pairs of skis.

The downside to Dynafit is the limited boot selection. Basicially they charge other boot manufacturers $100/pair to use the technology. They definitely ski better than freerides.

    Nice skis, btw.

Of course, if he races to win, he'll race on Trab!

Pete Swenson is working hard at putting together a Colorado specific race series, good high altitude training. Get ready to go COSMIC!

What's the point in buying Dynafits with breaks? You lose your weight savings, and the brakes make the heel rotation next to impossible.

Seeing people on Dynafits with breaks makes me feel almost as sorry for them as someone on Freerides. It just doesn't make any sense.

The brakes worked pretty well. I actually liked them for the steeper stuff when you could dig out a bit of a platform and set the skis down. They also let me nest the skis together when I just wanted to throw them under a pack strap for a quick step of ice to climb, rather than a-framing on the pack.

As for the weight savings, well, I don't think I've climbed anything where that little weight makes or breaks my trip.

I'm pretty indifferent to the brakes. They are nice for some stuff, not so good for others. But if they are going to be used, they better not come off when I need them. I never found the heel rotation to be a problem.

They need to redesign the front. Relying on the plastic base plate to lock out the toe is crazy. If that thing cracks like mine did, it could strand you. I'm still limping along on mine until the "season" ends, but it releases on steep sidehilling. Great fun.

I can see your point there. But the brakes, ugh, I just hate how the binding works with them. Everything is more difficult when climbing.

    Whatever works I guess.

yeah the brakes are overly-complicated too. I guess it says something that I have not bothered replacing them.
