    Utah Question

So, it looks like im moving from the Bay Area in california to Park City! Even though I can see Park City Resort from my front window, I am leaning heavily towards getting a pass to Alta. I am 19 and a college student outside of Utah. My questions are these:

~Actual drive time from PC to Alta w/snow, traffic, ect?

~Price of a season pass for someone my age at Park City Ski Resort(its not up yet for the 06/07 season)

~anything else I should be asking?

It'll be about an hour or so drive to AltaBird from Park City, you have to via parley's canyon on I-80 to SLC, then to I-215 to exit six down to the slc 'burbs then up LCC, not a great drive just because you have to deal w/ so many utarded beatrts that don't know how to drive. I might aslo suggest Snowbasin but that I think would be a 45 minute drive from PC.

save your pennies this summer and get an Alta student pass and a Canyons pass as well (or if you're into the park scene get a PCMR student pass ~ $375). Then if you're not down for the 1hr drive to Alta you can take a few laps at The Canyons and then hit class - that is if you plan on going to class.

What gives with more and more college students living in PC and commuting to SLC for class? Other than the obvious, is there something wrong with being a student and living close to campus?

mc_roon goes to school in the bay area, i go to school in VT, we will both be in park city for thanksgiving, a month for xmas (dec 15-jan 15) and then spring break(mid/late march). We just want to know if it will be worth it to go out to alta everyday, or should we just get a canyons pass, or just ski BC the whole time. Also, mc_roon and I will be in need of BC guides when we first arrive, we have no idea where to ski, and no idea what the snowpack is like. While we know sierra snow quite well and we are both avy certified, we know that we need to start over with BC skiing confidence and reading conditions and avy danger, so we will be relying on a maggot or two to show us the utah ropes.

Buy a sled and do your daily ski commute via Guardsmen pass to Bcc.
But remember there is no gnar and it always snows less in the bcc . On big dump days I would be leary of trying to make it from PC to the Lcc

Smart idea. You'll spend more time RT driving than you will hiking (not too mention we don't need any more exhaust around here in the winter). The snowpack is generally rather stable, just start checking this everyday and you'll be fine. The alpentech maps available at any BC shop (White Pine in PC) are nice to have too, good routes to follow.

I think that no matter what im going to get a student pass for Alta, because for ~500 if i ski 10 days, its cheaper then buying single lift tickets even at the student rate. I am looking for the best snow, and the most gnar, so i am assuming that Alta is my best option.

As for the drive, the general travel time would be about 1hr during normal days, and more during heavy snow storms. Drive time doesnt bother me or my brother, he is used to driving every day from UVM to the slopes, and I am used to driving 3+ hours every weekend to Tahoe.

As of now, what I am looking to do is to start getting into serious skiing shape right now, get a pass to Alta, and ski at Alta when we want and ski in the backcountry all the other times.

The idea of getting multiple season passes would probably not be possible, unless they are dirt cheap, because I am already going to have to buy 2 passes, one for Utah and one for Tahoe.

NICE! I wish my folks were into skiing. They just bought a house in Vegas. Hey, at least it's not Florida!
