I've been biting my tongue on this one for a while amidst the complaints about this year's POWDER. Make sure you support it, cause it's gonna blow the doors off everything. Surfer's Journal and Frequency were used as models during planning. This isn't just a bigger version of Powder. It's more photos, and more and longer stories.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
POWDER MAGAZINE UNVEILS NEW DESIGN;
ANNOUNCES EDITORIAL STAFF CHANGES
Larger format, improved paper quality highlight changes for 2004;
Steve Metcalf exits title, search underway for successor
DANA POINT (CA) -- POWDER, the voice of dedicated skiers since 1972, continues to set the bar for ski journalism with the decision to go to an oversized format with greatly improved paper quality in 2004, it was announced today by Josh Weis, Associate Publisher. The magazine will unveil the prototype for a redesigned format at the 2004 SIA show in Las Vegas, January 26-29.
“Our new format will allow us to improve on the visual and literary message we’ve been delivering to our readers for the last 32 years,” said Weis, an eight-year veteran of Powder. “An editorial direction focusing on more in-depth features, combined with the larger size and better quality paper stock will provide a tremendous showcase for what is already considered the best ski photography in the business.”
In other news, POWDER has announced that Steve Metcalf, the Editor of the magazine for the past two seasons, has stepped down after accepting a full time position as the sales and marketing director of Wilderness Tours, a whitewater and family resort located outside Ottawa, Ontario. Senior Editor Derek Taylor has been named the interim editor.
“Obviously, this is a huge move for me,” Metcalf says. “Being the Editor of POWDER was an incredible honor and a fantastic experience. While I’m sad to leave, I’m excited to move back to the verdant Ottawa Valley.” Metcalf’s voice and enthusiasm will continue to be a part of Powder’s exciting new publishing frontier.
