Favor to ask of mags with Solly connections

    Hi all,

Couple of months ago I posted this thread about the toe wings on my 916s. Salomon Australia sent me toe wing tabs, but they were for some other binding and I don't think it would be possible to swap them yourself anyway (without a rivet gun and possibly breaking the tabs off forever). I called them back and asked them to warranty them but apparently Salomon Australia doesn't have any 916s at all. They don't bring them in to the country. At least that was the excuse for telling me I'm SOL. I was told to send them back next time I'm in North America. Well, I'm not going to be back in North America next winter, so that's where you come in. Any mags got connections that can hook me up? I want to:

    Send you my bindings
You send them in to Salomon N.A.
    Salomon hopefully swaps them out
    You send them back

Obviously I'd pay all shipping costs and some beer money for your troubles. No hurry, but I'd like to get this done by next northern winter. Before all the smartasses reply hoping I'll send you free binders I obviously won't do this unless I feel comfortable with it. If you don't trust me to pay the shipping back, well you'll end up with lightly used 916s.

You can also chime in if you think I'm wasting my time and Salomon won't replace them. The whole deal will cost me a fair amount in shipping so I don't want to waste my time/money if I'm unlikely to get a new pair. I'd also prefer to only send back the toes, maybe even without the base plate. Do Salomon ask for the whole binding back? It'll cost me about 1/3-1/2 as much to just send minimal parts (hell, I could send the toe minus base plate and minus spring if that were good enough). Whole binding will cost me about $60 shipping Oz-USA-Oz.

If anyone wants to help me out you can PM me if you don't want it known you're a Solly insider.

    Thanks for any help.

what year are the binders ? you can find the age by looking at the base of the toe or heel piece for a small circle with numbers and an arrow. It will tell you the year of manufacture. This is the only thing Salomon will go by. There is a 5 year warranty on all salomon binders from manufacture if you don't have a receipt.

Also, don't take that kind of BS from Salomon Australia. If they haven't got them, tell them to send your binders back to annecy for repair / replacement. Its not your responsibility to return them to france, its your local salomon dealers responsibility. Salomon Australia is not some sort of other company working for salomon, it is a "wholly owned subsidiary of Salomon"

As of January 1, 2003 Salomon will officially commence operations in Australia as a wholly owned subsidiary of adidas-Salomon AG. Our operations are based in Melbourne along side other group members; adidas, Bonfire Snowboarding and Taylor Made Golf, although we will have a completely independent company within this structure we utilize some shared resources; HR, IT, Finance and Warehousing.
Get angry with these people, they should fix this.

Binders are 2004/2005 model from Start Haus' sale last year. No receipt, but they're definitely in warranty. The problem is, it's really not Salomon's fault. The worn tabs were caused wholly by Trekkers, not by a Salomon manufacturing defect. It's pretty obvious from the link in my other thread that something has ground away at the tab. If I wanted to bullshit them for a new set, I could break the tabs off completely but the guy already knows my story and I highly doubt many people will be ringing Salomon Australia with broken S916s. Besides, that'd be dishonest .

But you're right. I should push a bit harder. Though I already spent a couple of reasonably long phone calls trying to get my problem solved, and the guy I spoke to both times was the Australia-wide skiing rep for Salomon so I can't really get anyone higher than him in Oz.

hmmm ... if they're worn due to trekkers, i doubt they'll warranty them.

I may be able to help you here. i have a few sets of old driver binders that have some tabs on them.

I can cut the tabs off so that you can have 50% of the tab. you can then cut your tabs in the same place Epoxy the replacement tabs in place after slightly roughening the mating poing on the wing so you get a good purchase for the tab.

how do you feel about that ?

That'd be awesome wildstyle. In fact, if you're gunna kill the drivers anyway by cutting the tabs off, would you be willing to send me the whole toes? Then I could butcher other parts, like maybe the sexy flat AFD base plate, or maybe just swap springs over and use the whole driver toe. PM me a reasonable price for the toes and I'll pay you that + shipping (maybe surface to Oz? - I'm in no hurry).

The toes are completely gone. Not worth sending. I can send the Driver sections no problems. You can change the driver sections over but it does invovle knackering a section at the bottom of the screw.

The Springs from a 916/20 is a different length to a 997 6-14 spring so the swap out idea wouldn't work. You can completely swap out a toe and use a 6-14 toe though. Thats always an option.
