Has there been a Pirates of the Carribean thread yet?

If not, there is now. Going tonight. Although, the piracy has started early at Muvico Theaters. They charged me .75 service fee for an online ticket. I am saving them money by buying this thing online, fuckin' crooks. Me thinks I'll go down there a wee bit early and flash me cutlass at the scurvy ridden manager. Yarrr!

Saw it Saturday and thought it was good. Although I did feel kinda cheated that after 2 1/2 hours they ended the movie without resolving a single conflict or plot point. I kinda felt like they made the second one only to make sure people payed money to see the third. But what can you expect from Hollywood? Kinda annoying but a good movie nonetheless.

    Yeah, I thought it sucked.

I have given up all hope that Hollywood can become what it used to be.

Miami Vice is my last hope. If they fuck that up, I am climbing back into my time machine and going back to the 80's when movies were movies.

Do I hear a Goonies 2? C'mon Spielburg. Transformers? Fuck that.

See also THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. Same business formula: first one wrapped up in a nice little package, not much of a budget, not expected to do well. Ends up doing incredably well, makes sequels with big budgets for the sake of making more money. All in all, it was still a good flick. Glad I saw it after my carribean cruise vacation.

edit: they did turn Orlando's character into a wet blanket. Sad to see that.

Trust in Michael Mann. Everyone's ripping on the cast, but I don't care. Collateral, the Insider, and most importantly Heat. The guy is fucking nails when it comes to producing/directing kick ass movies. I'm gonna go see it on trust alone.

Leave Goonies alone. No sequel necessary. And please god, don't let someone remake it. Especially not Tim Burton. I used to like him a lot. Until of course his "It's not a remake!" of Planet of the Apes and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

ESB is arguably the best of the series. It's my favorite.

I'm not arguing this point, Dead Man's Chest reaped the benefits of having a hugely successful first episode and left the ending more or less just as open ended as ESB. They have a lot in common from a general plot standpoint.

and yes, ESB was the best of the series

I was entertained. Until about 2 hours and 20 minutes in when it became clear that it would take another 2.5 hours and $10.00 to finish out the movie. Then I was pissed.

I was entertained, it wasn't that bad at all.

Sometimes hard to follow, but my complete retardation could account for that.

A movie about stinking, filthy, corset-ripping men who swear, drink rum, and fight? On a ship?

Hell yeah...this one is definitely on my "to see in the movie theatre" as opposed to "on dvd" list.

    Things I liked:
I'm not complaining about the good old fashioned cleavage displayed by the chick in the beggining.

    Other than that, it sucked.

One good thing is that this movie is helping to slow down global warming...

This movie was terrible. The hoaky sea-creature guys were ridiculous. The first part was ok, the scene with the natives was pretty funny, but as soon as starfish-face showed up things got real shitty real fast. Johny Depp was the only thing that made the movie even watchable, but his character for this movie is ripped off directly from his HST in Fear and Loathing. Can't wait for the third one.

I'd say the charecter was ripped off from his charecter in the first movie, but whatever...

I knew going in that the third movie was already in production, so I guess I expected the ending to be a total cliffhanger. Keira Knightly was hot, orlando bloom was just a pansy, and the two pirates from the first movie were actually a little less gay.

For the first movie I have gone to with my wife since the birth of our daughter over a year and a half ago, I must say that I should just continue to stay out of the theaters.

I was bored just a bit into it, the wife wanted the $10 deal of 2 drinks, 4 Gallons of popcorn and some candy. Needless to say we rolled out of there.

I am not sure how many times I looked at my watch and when I went to take a leak, I actually asked when the movie was over.

The worst thing about this movie series... the mispronunciation of "Caribbean" by the movie's marketers.

It's CARIB-bean not caara-BEEAN or other terrible derivations that fumbling tongues now mumble. Aarg!

I just saw this movie for the first time on DirecTV pay-per-view. Didn't catch it in the theater. I was too long, but entertaining. Some of the situations were pointless. But like some of you said, now I have to watch the third one to know what the hell happens. I think the last good trilogy I saw that made me really want to see the next one was Back to the Future. Although Back to the Future III was a major let down. Meh.
