Meh...I thought the show was mediocre at best. I guess his band is pretty good but when every song is about politics, war, etc. it gets real old real fast. Definitely wont ever pay to see him but at least when its free I can feel good about leaving early.

Quite a large crowd on hand for that one, many more people than I was expecting.

Was that your first time seeing him?

cause all the hyper politics and him saying, "HOW YOU FEEEEELIN?" 300 times a show is bad enough once, but the second time its almost unbearable...

his band is good, michael not so much....

I've always had a good time at his shows. But then again, I'm definitely down with hyper politics.

It is one of my favorite bands to see live. That said, was even better when DJ Radioactive was with them (the Everybody Deserves Music album era). I can also conversely agree that Franti needs a new line....How you feelin does get old.

They have been my main ski song for a couple seasons: We Dont Stop and Sometimes (sometimes feels like I could zoom cross the sky....pretty appropriate).

agreed. I saw them sans Franti at the House of Blues and it is a much better show.

his interviews are fucking great, though. He was ranting about our corrupt secretary of defense only problem was, he was talking about what a sell out Colin Powell is/was. Actually I take that back. We need more well informed artists/actors to speak out.

Yep..first time. Probably the last time also. Not that it was bad, just not my cup of tea. When I'm at a show the last thing I want to think about is politics. I go to see music to escape from being bombarded with that shit, not to be bombarded with it.

    Politics = harshin' my mello

I bet Earl Scruggs wont be talking politics when he plays in a few weeks. I guess I just like musicians that shut the fuck up and get after it...unfortunately theres not too many of them out there.

I've been holding it in for soooooo long but I can't take it anymore...you're a douche rocket and nobody gives a fuck how many people or shows you've seen or how much you know about obscure bands nor their members. You remind me of my old roommate who made me hate WSP because he was so goddamned righteous about music and had to blast his opinion in on every fucking band. Fuck.

God forbid you actually hear music with a conscience, that transcends pot induced hazes and calls for action. If you feel like escaping reality through music go see a phish show (not knocking them I love phish). But franti is what he is, a social minded artist who believes music is more than a "mellow"

I saw Michael Franti at the SF airport a couple weeks ago. My wife was grabbing a few beers and she gave me the bug-eyes and pointed to him. He looked up and said "Hi", so we chatted a bit. He's a totally mellow guy with a ton of presence. He also talked to my son Forest (6), asked him some questions, it was cool.

I ALMOST said, "How you feeeelin?" when he looked up and said "hi". I think my wife would have pissed herself if i'd pulled that off.

agree 100%. seen him a few times, a little too political for my tastes.

for a similar genre of music, Toots & the Maytals blows Franti out of the water, imo.

That's because Toots has been cranking out tunes since before Franti was even old enough to wipe up after his own drool.

I have heard music with a conscience...and I dont care for it. Thats the point of my post. I escape reality in many ways, including Phish shows. As I stated, this was my first time seeing Franti and will be my last, I was simply sharing my opinion of my first experience seeing the band. Dont get your political panties in a ball because I despise the politics you seemingly enjoy.

The fact that phish is right is immaterial?

No. The fact that he's a douche nozzle makes the post immaterial. And it's shocking to see you post against an outwardly liberal artist, Mr G! Do you have a super secret beeper that pages you everytime someone mentions anything remotely political on this board?

Was the Gallivan Center packed to the gills? I can hardly stand going down there for the free concerts anymore because it's so f-ing crowded. I guess if it's free, you really can't complain much....

There's a fine line between "outwardly liberal" and complete retardation (not even having worn shoes for the last five years.)

    I aim to please.

funny you ask, the assault on my hotmail account has finally stopped. I don't know how I got signed up for the e-mail notification everytime some one posted in a thread I looked at. Not exactly the value added I'm looking for from TGR.
