Well next winter I'll be in Vancouver and I definitely want to take full advantage of the terrain available in BC. I have skied out west before but never gotten the chance to go out of bounds, so no experience with beacons, probbing, snow pack, etc... I don't really know what schools are considered good and nor where to look for them. Any advice?

Take the RAC - Recreational Avalanche Courses.
Both are great courses. Take them in Nov/ Dec so you don't get distracted
