TDF 2006: Stage 3 (spoiler alert)

Well, TMobile spoiled the ending of the race today by sending some German speaking dude
Matthias Kessler out ahead to win the stage.

This of course ruined it for the rest of the sprinters
who ride in the pack only to poach the stage win at the end.

A couple others made a go for it after the most of the day 5 out front
got gobbled up by the pack.
And that caused the pelaton to be moving fast!

Lots of falls today. A few injuries resulting.

The flat stages continue until the Stage 10, the 12th July.
Until then, it's all show. That day brings on the mountains!

Valverde, the favorite to win the tour, is out (broken collarbone). One thing is for sure: if George or Floyd can't win this year, they ain't ever gonna.

    ^^^ Isn't that the truth. ^^^

At least George and Floyd aren't a couple of no-names from deep in the peloton. Either way, there will be detractors who will say the winner won a hollow victory because the big players weren't there to contest the race.

Too bad about Rodriguez, Dekker and Valverde.

I need to do a review of the teams, to see who is still in the Tour.
Injuries and ejections take out indivuals, but how those affect their team leaders is another story.

    Anyone got a good link?

I wonder if they won it, if they would feel that way somehow?

I guess if any of the riders who were booted come back clean, then maybe they would feel that way. But if it comes out they were dirty, then fuck 'em.

Unless, of course, the assumption that the entire field is dirt in some way. I'd like to think not, but.........

I am pulling for Hincapie, he lives in a town about 20 minutes from my house, but I don't think he will win. It would be fucking awesome if he did though. I will just have to wait and see.

Q for you guys: rider falls in the last minutes of yesterday's race, he's picked up by his crew and is sent onwards, however the camera shows him clearly hanging on to the medical cabriolet car which is pulling him forward.

is this allowed? there was some discussion that you get "medical assistance" if you're close to the peloton, but do they mean that one is allowed to have a car pulling him?

My understanding is that a rider can hang onto the medical car while receiving medical attention.

Watch the domestiques when they drop back to the team cars to pick up water bottles for the team. It's fairly subtle, but the way the bottle is handed to the rider gives him a bit of a push.
