    Passport Renewal processing time

How long should I expect for a passport renewal to be completed and for me to get the new passport in hand? What has anyone seen?

I think the book answer is six weeks. I want to avoid scheduling a SA departure before I get the new passport.

Good luck, I've heard it's gotten ridiculous to wait sometimes (3.5 months for a family friend of ours).

Damn, I got mine a few years ago in 48 hours for a new one. Had pic taken by the proper people, the company sent it off and had it in hand 2 days later.

But it was like $200, but not my money.

Just got a renewal, took 4-5 weeks by the normal (not speedy) route. May differ by regional office, but I doubt it varies much.

Once you send it in, you can track its progress (and the date to get it back) online. If it's taking too long, you can call and get it fast-tracked for a small fee.
    It's idomatic, beatch.

Wasn't gonna post this... But since its summer and way too hot for me....

In civilized countries like Finland, you can have a new passport in 24h (provided you started the process during office-hours)... The price is the same as for 10 years passport (the express-one is valid for 1 year)... Atleast that used to be the case, now they don't give out passports for longer than 5 years, since the new "biometric" passport is supposed to be on the market, come this fall.

    2 Weeks

I got new passport last Year Before going to SA.

I paid a little extra and got it back in 2 Weeks.
I printed the application off the internet (Government site)

I took my Photos and application along with my birth Certificate to the post office, they created the money Orders and express Send and receive packages.

I got my new passport and birth certificate back in a little less than 14 days.
I think it cost me about 140$

Here is the link to get the passport application all information and fee's are on the application.

My buddy had his passport stolen in Slovenia, and had a new one in mere hours at the US consulate in Ljubljana.

Not that this really helps you.

You can go to the State Deprtment in SF and get one in a day if you have a printout of a ticket purchase. I managed to pull it off with an online reservation last time I went. They didn't look too hard. It's like $60.

Buy your ticket. Get your passport. It'll arrive in time. Anyway, why on earth would you wait to schedule a flight before you receive your passport? Where's the logic in that?

You always have the option to pay extra for the expedited route. Easiest way to renew is via the Post Office.

Ding Ding Ding. Pay the money, and next time don't let it expire.

I recently renewed my passport and opted for the expedited service. I sent in the application via FedEx overnight as I hate the USPS. The new passport came in a little over a week.
