Woops, barely skimmed through #1 (not enough sleeep!) okay, so #1 sounds the best. Thanks for organizing. From my experiences, Egay takes too many fees and crap so we might as well just post it on here/the other skiing sites you were talking about. Thanks justcuz and natty for organizing.

I also say we open this up to all kinds of useful shit, not just skiing stuff. Example being DECENT items like a Cordless Dewalt drill, stuff like that?? No clothes, XXL Black HH pants, No chinstraps, and no Phunks.

we could set up an auction using a message board forum.

I set up a demonstration of what I'm thinking here (it's piggybacked off my brother's forum): http://turzman.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=3

Just an idea. We could do something similar here on TGR. Or if people agree to it, you're free to use the demo forum I set up.

While I love the admiration; I have a couple of quesitons in mind.

    1) The fact that you don't have to register to post is cool, but any old newschooler could log on and put a bid in. That could be good or bad. Good because it might raise the price of the item, bad because we might get a bunch of frauds. Most likely it will be the first comment....I don't think we'll get a lot of frauds.

    2) I like the idea of doing it here on TGR because people know it. Others may think differently, however.

Not trying to be a downer, just throwing out my opinions.

I've had a few good thoughts on how to do this. I'll keep most of the details to myself until we decide this is a go; but right now I'm thinking I'd post a general thread about the auctions, ask Owens to make it sticky and post links to the actual autctions inside that thread. Then in gear swap, I'm thinking I'll make a distinct generic title like AUCTION #1. Start the bidding and stop it when I think the price is high enough and bidding seems to settle a bit.. That way there will be no sniping and people will simply bid what they can afford or want to pay.

Are we still putting stickers on the auction block too b/c I'd be down for some of those.

Maybe we should get an "auction" sticky, or make this thread a sticky.

Great idea, and always happy to help our friend Plakespear.

I'm down with jsutcuz or steve's idea of having a central location for the auction and then having the people donating the gear shipping directly to the auction winner. Seems dumb to pay shipping twice.
I am willing to collect the funds, maybe I can write checks to the donaters for their shipping costs...
I am also down with not limiting the auction to ski gear.
Thanks for all the ideas! Let's make this the next big thing in a proud history of maggot fundraisers!
And thanks to those who have already paypaled their cash donations to me!

Yeah. It would take a special kind of asshole to cunt up a fundraiser for plakes. hopefully it doesn't come to that.. but we could deal with the situation if it arises.

I agree. Everyone here is already registered. And if Frozen wants to create a special (temporary) forum just for plakes auctions, that would be ideal.

I'm not sure if it would work as well to have it integrated into gear swap among regular stuff... maybe it would. don't know.

Cool. Here's my current plan for the next 24 hours. I would like to give this thread some time to develop and get some more responses. So at 8:30 tomorrow am (eastern time) I will check this thread one last time, get the general concensus on using Steve's forum or TGR.

Then I'll make a completely seperate thread about donating gear/stuff and how to go about getting me good information. Seeing as this is developing very close to the 4th, I'm guessing lots of people will be away from the board (myself included)....so I'll keep the donation process going until after the fourth.

For now, I'm watching this thread develop for another 15 hours or so....then I'll report back. I'm interested to see what people think about using steve's forum....

Very true on the auctions getting lost in the holy shits of gear swap. In which case your forum would be a good option.

    Sounds good justcuz.
My gut response to tgr or steve's deal is to keep it on tgr, because we're already all here, regulars and who knows how many lurkers.
Let's get some more responses and see what others think over the next day or 2, but thanks for being all over this bro!!
I have no problem with this auction coming together over the next week or 2 (especially with 7/4). Let's take our time and make it a good one with great participation and awesome items to auction off.
And keep those donations coming in via my paypal!

I just talked to Plake. I swear that guy is more positive than anyone I know. I'm pretty sure he was crying when I told him about this fundraiser, he desperately needs this, so thanks everyone.

Just another Idea for Raising Money, a local cyclist got hurt pretty bad with no insurance, so they started the Falllen rider fund, http://www.fallenriderfund.com they had a few group rides in which they raised a lot of money. One was a ride in Jim Thorpe PA which is famous for sick single track, although a lot of it is now shut down, the locals led rides of epic proportions on there reserved stashes, some of the sweetest single track i have ridden to date. I think we could put together a Fallen Skier fund site.. and do some similiar stuff with bike and ski events... Id be willing to put the site up and get it together. Thoughts???

Oh they raised an ass load of money

    Some thoughts

    (1) we are coming up on a holiday weekend. Lots of peeps are taking off for vacation.Maybe plan on getting this rolling like July 6th or so.

    (2) gear shipping...It seems to me that a large part of the proceeds are going to be eaten up by shipping first to a central location and then to the buyer. If at all possible, why not have the donator ship directly to the buyer, providing a tracking #. If payment is made through paypal, I'm pretty sure there is some protection for the buyer. Plus, maybe alot of donators will eat the shipping thereby sweetening the pot or maybe the seller will offer to split shipping costs.

    (3) maybe have some regional coordinators to call the donator after the sale has been made. If one guy is doing this it could get overwhelming.

    (4) take a page from ebay and put a" buy it now option" on all gear.

When you have all the deets, make an official Sticky thread, please. I'll do whatever you guys decide, with whatever logistics are easiest. I can donate gear, or money, or whatever - just make a new thread, por favor, when you decide.

Agreed. Let's use this time to spread the word and find gear to donate.

I suggested this above (donator taking care of shipping logistics) and I think it's a good idea. I personally will eat the shipping as part of my donation to the cause, but other may want to add a shipping fee to their auction.

I have some time to do this and I'm sure I can enlist a few others, but I am kinda counting on the buyers and donators to send money/gear in a timely manner and make this run as smoothly as possible.

First and foremost, if I may speak for the group, the Maggot collective loves you Nils! Stay positive.

I don't have a strong opinion on which website is used, I'd lean toward my home away from home - TGR.

I'm in with some cash (payment sent to Natty's PayPal account) and I'll donate whatever I can. While centralized shipping makes no sense, a check and balance system to confirm payment prior to shipping seems elementary enough. Just thought I'd say it outloud.

As I See It: Here's where we stand.

    • Donator Ships Item. Perhaps we'll set up a follow up system so we can assure goods get delivered in a timely and fair manner....though I don't think we'll have any problems.
    • Looking like people would rather have things listed on TGR or Ebay. To keep fees minimal, I vote TGR.
    • Wait until after the holiday. DONE. Only thing that would happen before the holiday is what I'm about to say below.
    • I will start a new thread outlining the details when we get them ironed out here and will make it sticky.

Hmmmm, I'm in for the paypall gig cause Nils is da man!!!

As for donating gear, my gear is barely worth shipping. I beat the shit out of everything I own, therefore I would feel guilty if someone actually bought it.

    Hang in there mang!!!

Sounds good bro. Thanks for stepping up, getting involved, and helping to keep things moving forward. And thanks again to the generous maggots who have donated to my paypal--keep it coming!
edit: I would be happy to act as the central collection point for funds from the auction winners (paypal would probably work best), send out checks to the donators for their shipping costs if applicable, and then get the accumulated money from the auctions and the straight-up monetary donations to Nils.

I don't know if anyone would be interested, but I could definitely donate some prints from my website- www.snsgallery.com. Just let me know which ones and what size, and I can have them made pretty quickly.
