Paging Computer Nerds - Need help installing Flash

My computer at work won't let me view anything Flash. I've tried installing it a hundred times, and everytime, the Macromedia site indicates that it is installed and working (the little animation verification works.)

But when I go to any Flash site, it still won't work.

Any ideas? Is there a setting I am overlooking?

Everyone else here seems to run Flash without any problems. I mentioned it to IT, but got blown off. Don't want to ask again because I'll get the inevitable question:

IT: "Why do you need it?"

Me: "Wicked cool youtube videos, and such. . . .No?"

Your work may filter what you have access to. Flash files may be filtered or banned by your IT department. You most likely have an internet nanny at work, and flash files are one of several prohibited file types for download. Flash files are not completely without risk, so this makes some sense from your employer's perspective; not to mention the lost productivity to playing with flash content. Become self-employed.

Except that everyone else can view Flash files without an issue. (That was the first thing I checked.)

    Any settings I should check?

Consider yourself lucky. There's too many flash ads anyway.

There used to be a problem with installing Flash on IE that went like this:

    FlashInstaller need ActiveX
Smart people disable ActiveX because it's a big gaping hole in your security.
FlashInstaller doesn't handle not-ActiveX, tags the registry with "Flash Installed" and now you can never install Flash on IE.

Apparently Quicktime can play Flash files so install that instead.

I'm assuming you've read the Common Macromedia Flash Player install issues.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

Yep, read the FAQs, checked ActiveX settings. Tried reinstalling again. The Macromedia animation ("You have successfully Installed Flash") works, but everything else says "You need to install Flash Player"

How am I supposed to see the video of the giant bat-eating centipede on my office computer like this? I can't work under these conditions!

It could be an IE problem. There is a repair IE process- see these 2 sites:

So I went to the Adobe/Macromedia site and installed the Shockwave player first, and THEN the Flash player. For whatever reason, doing it in that order solved the problem. Giant bat-eating centipedes, here I come!

    Thanks maggots.
