Lightning Strike

Anyone's house ever been hit by lightning or been near a lightning strike?

My neighors (3 houses away) yard way flooded yesterday when a lightning strike hit a metal pole (or at least next to it) in his back yard went through the ground and hit their house. It blew about a 8X8 chunk of topsoil and sod into pieces and it ended up all over their and their neighbors' houses. The sprinkler system is trashed, which is why the yard flooded. A big plastic cover from the sprinkler system that is normally in the ground was blown over the house onto the sidewalk. Their gas line was ruptured and the house filled with gas. They were gone when this happened so they had a surprise waiting for them when they got home.

I was on the phone when this happened and said to the person that someone's house was just hit. At least it wasn't mine this time.

I had a lightning strike near my house in the middle of the night last year. My smoke alarms went off. Everything in my entertainment center was turned on and a few of my breakers were tripped. Scared the crap out of me and my dog. I'd say I got off light compared to my neighbor.

My neighbors house was hit last night. Blew a huge hole in the roof and set the attic insulation on fire. Took quite a while to put out the blaze.

The bolt of lightening arced over my house and hit the neighbors. Another neighbor was out on his deck grilling and saw the whole thing. I guess karma was smiling on me last night.

Our pool fence was struck when I was like 12 in Tucson. Pretty spooky!
