    Question Cross Posting Question

Im not picking on anyone here, just something Ive been honestly curious about, and finally written up. I suppose this could be because Im somewhat new here, but seriously, why do people bother crossposting things on TGR?

Sure, if youre selling a bike it could fit into the Gear Swap and Sprocket Rockets forums, but it seems like it would keep the whole board cleaner if you just post it in the one place where it makes most sense, in that case it would be Gear Swap.

I guess for me its the fact youre creating duplicate threads....and we all know how pissy folks get around here if you ask a similar question to ones already posed and answered in the past, hence, "search function JONG."
Furthermore, the contributions of one thread are not cross posted to the other so now you have an information gap and have to look in two places to get the full answer and all the responses from those that contributed to one of your threads.

Also, I generally dont browse specific forums, rather I browse the New Posts. So if its posted once anywhere, Ill see it. Are other people different in that regard?

Its not like these threads are hidden or hard to get to that they need to be in two places, unlike crossposting a TR\ad from someplace like telemarktips or mtbr.

    Thoughts comments etc?

hmmm, obviously cross posting bothers you. Maybe someone who posted something in gear swap, also wanted to post something in say the sprocket rockets forum?? Maybe people aren't necessarily checking gear swap, but see something for sale in sprocket rockets and is like "no shit, that is a great deal maybe I will buy that...". As long as it is related to the two forums you are posting it in is it really that BIG of a deal?

Get the sand out of your vagina my friend, life is waaaay to short to worry about nonsense like this.

More peeps look in Ski&Snowboard than anywhere else.
So it kind of makes sense to duplicate any posts in other Forums there.

um, it doesnt bother me. There is no sand in anyones cootch. I am far from worried about this.

If you would carefully and kindly re-read my post above you would notice Im more curious than anything else, especially given the fact that people get so pissy here if someone asks a duplicate question to one previously posed and answered. There's a hipocracy about these two scenarios that made me curious enough to ask this question.

I dunno, I thought I made valid points and asked valid questions, but if no one else seems to care or have insightful input, then I suppose that in and of itself answers it for me.

so I take it you prefer to browse just that one forum and not use the New Posts method to see whats being talked about?

I thought I remembered a post about how people view the forum, but I cant seem to find it. I guess i forget what keywords I need to be searching for, or maybe it was on another site.

Sorry if my words came across as let's say snotty! I guess my point is that as long as you state that your extra post is a cross thread that is better than posting the same exact thread in 2 or 3 different forums. When I cross thread (which has only been once), I didn't repost all the info...I used the same thread title and just posted the link to the original thread. I guess no harm no foul....

Sorry about the sand in the 'gina comment, it actually makes me laugh, so I had to use it!!

IMHO cross threading isn't a bad thing unless someone goes crazy with it and cunts up all the forums. Another question for discussion could be...'Why don't people use the search mechanism, before they post sometimes??? The answer they are looking for may already be out there!' That one seems to be a slight problem?!?!

Don't make that assumption. It varies.
Yeh, sometimes "new posts". Often "user cp" first, to check out responses.
Mostly I just cruise the forums. But, so far, not Kayak, Surf.
What I meant, if you have something you think "Important", you should prolly mention it in S&S, as well as whatever "proper" forum you put it in.
(He said put it in hurhur )

So, you gonna cross-post this, or just let thread drift happen?

Even though an answer to many questions can be found via search, there's no conversation involved. Folks come here to interact as well as get answers and a new thread starts things flowing back & forth. I think many folks who only want a simple answer just use search, but the ones who want convo as well will ask before searching. If "dumb questions" irritate someone, they should just let it slide, or teach a newbie how to use search as part of the thread. Most people learn best when taught directly. Think of learning from a mentor/instructor vs from reading a book or even watching a video. One on one is much more fun too.
Good runs when you get them.

I never do the "new posts" thing, I just surf the forums, always S&S, usually padded room and gear swap. rarely the others.

and cross posting never made me blink. never thought about it, won't start now.

good points everyone, thanks for the insight

Personally, it doesnt bother me if someone asks a similar question, so long as its asked intellegently. For example asking which powder skis they should buy, and including where, what, how long, goals, boot, height, weight, favorite color etc type of information along with that post.

I guess im still just hung up on the fact that calling out "JONGs" happen so much because of a pointless thread, when infact, a crossposted thread could potentially be the same thing. well whatever, i guess it doesnt really matter, and I kinda see why it doesnt seem as big of a deal to people. Maybe, also, its just a minority of folks that JONG people and most people really dont care if someone posts a similar question. Anyway, I guess Ive got my answers.

I think I shall just ignore it b/c it really doesn't matter to me either way!!
