I am looking for some beta on MT/northern WY creeking possiblities over the 4th of July weekend. Specifically, does anyone know what the level of Big Timber Creek is likely to be? Also, I have heard that East Rosebud Creek is close to Big Timber and is high quality. How is that flowing?
I am also considering some Clark's Fork stretches, such as the Day Run and Honeymooner. It looks like the levels on the Clark's Fork have dropped off recently, I would assume that this would be a good thing for these runs?
Thanks for any info. I can give anyone some updates on Colorado creeks if needed. Cheers.
I would bet that Big Timber will still be runable around that time. But as you probably guessed many rivers are going to be on the big time downhill slide for flows. They had a decent snow year around those parts so things might work out. You might try calling Northern Lights in Bozeman before hand to see if they have any reports.
Thanks FOS. I definitely surf the AW site quite a bit. I don't think there is a guage for Big T or Rosebud, so I am hoping someone that has run them recently could opine on the flows. I will definitely give Nothern Lights a call, thanks for the tip. I have heard in the past the Big T ususually is at a good level in late june/early july, but I know it varies from year to year.
Down here, we had one cold weekend and that shut everything down, now all the creeks are dropping out fast and never had a chance to get back up to the pre-cold snap levels. But there are still plenty of runs that are just coming in because they only require 100-200 cfs, so if the MT creeks are low, I will probably stay local for the fourth. Thanks again.
Any MT/WY boaters looking to get out this weekend? I am planning on heading up that way with a friend on friday afternoon. Both of us are comfortable on class V creeks and looking to hit clark's fork (day run/honeymooner), hell's canyon on the Boulder, East Rosebud if its running, possibly woodbine section on the Stillwater, and of course Big Timber. If anyone is around that wants to join us, we would definitely appreciate the added safety and any beta. Plan is to boat saturday - tuesday. Cheers!
