    Utards - LDS question?

I'm trying to get ahold of basically a property manager for a ward (Butler 7th & 20th). I tried calling all the numbers for the ward and the stake that are listed on the LDS website and no one ever answers - no answering machine either.

Do people work at wards during the week? Do they ever have some staff there during the week? I tried calling the number for the Salt Lake Butler West Stake but there's no answer there either... so what's above that where someone would answer the phone during the week?

Or do they just have some good caller ID and not want to talk to me?

If you ponder and pray, you'll know the answer in your heart.

I worked for a commercial RE broker in SLC yrs ago. Since the church owned quite a bit of property in town, I had a few dealings with their peeps. Basically forget it unless your LDS. The code question being "what ward are you from?"

your best bet is to find someone in that ward who can introduce you to who you need to talk to.

That's kindof what I'm figuring. Soooooo.... anyone know anyone in the Butler West Stake or Butler 7th or 20th Wards?

I'll try calling on Sunday, if nothing else.

Pretty sure you have no idea what you are talking about!

Altagirl I believe all the property management/land issues are handled through church headquarters in SLC, you would have better chances getting your questions answered there, plus they are an 8 to 5 operation as opposed to just sundays whith the ward houses. PM me if you need the "secret code words" I may also be able to get a more direct phone number for you, that may help keep the bigotry and ignorance that will likly spew forth from this thread.

    Thanks! PM sent.

I wasn't having much luck finding info on the LDS website.

Why pull the discrimination card so soon? I said nothing derogatory about mormons. In fact, some of my best buds from college are mormons.

BTW, I worked for Marcus & Millichap in SLC and know 1st hand what a clusterfuck it is trying to get info out of the LDS church when it comes to their property holdings.

Try the real estate division at (801) 240-3840, if they can't help I am sure they can direct you to somewhere that can.

    Good luck.

P11, no offense taken I just get pretty pissed where some of these threads go. Haven't had to deal in Real estate with the church but I would imagine that they are not any more secretive than any other corporation. Sorry you had a bad experience, hope it didn't reflect poorly on your outlook of most mormons, despite what some would say we can be a pretty good bunch of folks, we make good jello salads too, and who doesn't like Jello.

Heh. Speaking of Jello... I was out on a site walk up by Bear Lake. The only store in town basically is the equivalent of a 7-11. Like 4 aisles of snacks. And about 5 feet of shelf space was Jello. Like 500 boxes. I've never seen anywhere that such a large percentage of shelf space was reserved for one random item that I wouldn't expect in a gas station convenience store in the first place.

It is right since basically any church is set up as some kind of corporation.

from a 1997 TIME magazine article excerpted here:

TIME has been able to quantify the church's extraordinary financial vibrancy. Its current assets total a minimum of $30 billion. If it were a corporation, its estimated $5.9 billion in annual gross income would place it midway through the FORTUNE 500, a little below Union Carbide and the Paine Webber Group but bigger than Nike and the Gap.

    [...]

The top beef ranch in the world is not the King Ranch in Texas. It is the Deseret Cattle & Citrus Ranch outside Orlando, Fla. It covers 312,000 acres; its value as real estate alone is estimated at $858 million. It is owned entirely by the Mormons. The largest producer of nuts in America, AgReserves, Inc., in Salt Lake City, is Mormon-owned. So are the Bonneville International Corp., the country's 14th largest radio chain, and the Beneficial Life Insurance Co., with assets of $1.6 billion.

    [...]

Latter-day Saints employ vast amounts of money in investments that TIME estimates to be at least $6 billion strong. Even more unusual, most of this money is not in bonds or stock in other peoples' companies but is invested directly in church-owned, for-profit concerns, the largest of which are in agribusiness, media, insurance, travel and real estate. Deseret Management Corp., the company through which the church holds almost all its commercial assets, is one of the largest owners of farm and ranchland in the country, including 49 for-profit parcels in addition to the Deseret Ranch. Besides the Bonneville International chain and Beneficial Life, the church owns a 52% holding in ZCMI, Utah's largest department-store chain. (For a more complete list, see chart.) All told, TIME estimates that the Latter-day Saints farmland and financial investments total some $11 billion, and that the church's nontithe income from its investments exceeds $600 million.
That was 10 years ago, the corporation has only grown since then.

Those would be "calibrated" jello shots, not to exceed one ounce of "measured" spirituous liquor per each individual jello shot/serving/person.

No thanks to the 4 mormonz that hold a 4/5 majority on the 5 member Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission.

Do you have to get a sponsor or buy a membership to have one of those jello shots?

Yeah, I put the LDS church on about the same level as the real estate cartel.

To both of them, it's all about money and control:
