    Deer Valley Report

Well I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed with the riding at Deer Valley but I guess it is better than nothing. Everything was pretty loose up there today. The NCS and Thieves Forest were the only place where my wheels were hooking up... and that was only in spots. As I have mentioned before so much potential... BUILD BUILD BUILD What's up with Aspen Slalom... shouldn't a slalom course have big berms... maybe they were invisible. Probably the most fun I had all day was dropping that hill on the end of Theives, I took it a little too big and landed once almost on the flat in the road... reminds me of the wood drop on Schleyer at Whistler... Fun. I think I am going to skip the pass since I will probably go under 10 times this year... seems a little pricey for only being open till Labor Day unless you can ride during the week. All in All it was a super fun day. <REPORT DONE>

Oh yeah and I climbed up the road to go to the NCS course and some rich asshole decided to stop his car and tell me to ride back down when I was 20 feet from the dirt road b/c I was in his private neighborhood. Apparently I missed the sign b/c I am a dumb mountain biker. Perhaps with all of his riches he could afford to commision a bigger sign since there were 3 of us that all missed it. I can't wait till I am wealthy and build a big eyesore of a dirt jump park in my backyard for all my neighbors to bitch about. What's with people?

They haven't had a chance to rake the gravel off the trails yet, so yeah, it's fairly loose, but it was still fun. Trails aren't always groomed and I figure I need to work on cornering on gravel as much as buffed dirt.

And Aspen slalom has never had bermed turns - it's just called slalom because there are like 100 switchbacks in it.

Hehe. Welcome to Utah, MB There's really no such thing as tacky good grippy dirt here...except for maybe at Solitude. But you have to climb for that stuff. Glad you had fun at least.

Even though it's never tacky - it was looser than usual with gravel on top of everything. Talking to the lifties they said they'll be out raking it soon, but they didn't have time since they had to focus on building the new trail down to the Wasatch lift. (Which is loose, but pretty fun. They just need to figure out how to get the foot traffic off of it.)

And I've heard that the stunts on the end of Homeward Bound are gone for good after someone broke their neck last fall. Which is a bummer. And hopefully only a rumor.

No whining!! First time up there myself and the trails felt great to me. I had a blast thanks to my tour guides. By the number of people riding on Sunday I can't believe they can afford to do lift served at all. When Americans start taking responsibility for themselves, I’m sure we’ll have great stunt parks. Until that day, if you want things to be different, push for laws to be created which protect the resorts. Also, keep buying passes so they can see some economic reason to allow it.
