Getting to the top of a search engine

Anyone have a line on the best way to get your website to the top of a search engine. I dont mind paying for it, because this is my primary business? I have the website designed. To a goto a web master?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you search, there are other recent threads like this one about search engines.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

I don't think it's that easy to get your website at the top of the list (or near the top). I know my brother does this kind of thing for a living (together with some other web related stuff). Send me a pm with what you need exactly and I'll check with him what would be possible.

an important thing with google is how many other sites link to your site, which is why you get all those random people spamming blog comments etc

First step - Is your already designed website search engine friendly?
(newsflash: most web designers/developers don't understand SEO, i know, it's wrong)

If it's all flash, or 99.9% of the text is in graphics, it's not SEfriendly. Do you have crazy long URLs from a dynamic programming platform? that's not gonna help either.

but anyhoo, as it's been said already, check out http://forums.searchenginewatch.com or www.searchengineguide.com

awww... you're so sweet... but for future reference, I hardly do any consulting /on-going work anymore. Unless it's something adventure travel/luxury resort lodging or action sports related.
