Unhappy Looking for used BCA tracker and avi gear

Need a used BCA tracker, working condition, for next season along with probe and shovel. Also, need a used Heli-pro womens pack.

Also, if you have a non-working BCA Tracker, I lost the battery cover of mine and would like to scrounge one from someone who has it laying around.

Like davep said, call BCA. They'll probably replace the battery cover for you, and if they don't do it for free it won't be too expensive. Give it a shot, you have nothing to lose.

That sucks.... duct tape?? Seems like it would work just fine. How often do you change batteries during a season?

upallnight - maybe the batteries in your beacon corroded 'cause you made it out of duct tape

shit....i used duct tape *instead of* batteries in mine. yikes!

if the battery cover can be lost completely, i'd think that using a couple wraps of duct tape (waterproof and pretty damn secure for the few wraps) would be of comparable strength.

i don't use the tracker, so i can't say for sure...but if done properly i think that would hold it.

of course, having the battery cover would be best, but if he's in a bind i'd try the duct tape route if i absolutely *had* to tour that day.

regardless, i'd be careful about terrain selection. those damn trackers have such short range!

i can't speak to the tracker as i'm not as familiar with it's layout, but i'm pretty sure if i wrapped duct tape around my barryvox, i wouldn't be able to press the button to switch between send and receive

i'm all for emergency duct tape repairs, but i just wouldn't trust it. for example, some battery compartment covers have rounded outcroppings that hold the batteries firmly in place so they don't shake around.

in any case, just fuckin' around UAN

Really? I think one could still press the button (or cut out a section in the duct tape). The tape wouldn't have to cover the entire device.

Indeed. Some batteries, in my experience, are slightly different sizes (particularly evident with rechargables, but none of us are using rechargeables in our transceivers, right?)...so batteries can slosh around just enough inside the device to momentarily lose power. (This used to happen with my GPS.) I actually had to use a bit of foam in that device to make it more secure...but I think duct tape would have worked better than the stock battery cover.

Then again, we're talking about a non-life-saving device.

I know...it's all cool. I don't take it seriously. It's summer ...but after today the days start getting shorter.

is anyone still using the old battery cover on their ortovox m2, they had recalled them for this reason, the only difference that i could see was that they put a small piece of plastic with a foam core (kind of like the security device)
