TR Two of Five days at Kings and Corn

Another June arrived and with it my invitation to Kings and Corn. I got myself up to Anchorage and everything else was taken care of. Our host is the most generous and one of the most passionate skiers I know. Before I get to the pixs, the trip totals were staggering. We had 67 heli drops, about 200,000 feet over 4 and a half days. Lel, Nobis, Harms and Overcast found us some insane new terrain. We spent almost all of day three in the Land Of the Colouiers. These guys stumbled onto this region and we were the fortunate guinea pigs.

We arrived in AK at aound 10PM. Still fairly light out

Not to get sidetracked, but I was sure these were A4’s with new paint jobs. Someone else told me they were old SU Soviet Planes. Would be interested to get an official ruling.

We flew out on the heli, pretty strange buzzing around the airport dodging 747’s and other large aircraft

The new lodge looked sick from the air. It was even nicer inside.

Last years client turned CPG guide, CPG scored huge with Harmsy. Anyone who has skied with him knows what I am talking about.

The rest of our crew arrived on the classic Dehavalin Beaver. The lake provides a perfect landing pad

The greeting party. This A Star B2 was in great shape and was super clean. Another unbelievable stroke of luck was that the mosquitoes where on vacation. As you can see from the windscreen of the heli, there are very few bug strikes. For the four days, I did not get bit once. Overcast did not know if it was early, the weather was cooler than last year or it was the new location, at the mouth of the river with some wind that kept the bugs away. For whatever reason, it was amazing.

Who is that masked man. This was the hat of choice.

The usual suspect relaxing after a great first day

I did not take my camera out for our afternoon session on the first day. After getting about 10 runs, we came in for dinner, then went back out for our only evening session.
    Our host

    Taking off from the lodge

The snow was tightening up by the minute. Unlike last year where we could ski till 1:30am, this year we pulled the plug at 11. Temps where just colder and we were on more glaciated terrain.

    Wig?

    Day Two

    Day 2
With Colder temps we slept in a little later and enjoyed the food and hospitality of the Todrillo Lodge. Overcast, Nobis and Moe got a screaming deal on the lodge. The plumbing all had to be redone and after some finishing touches the lodge was ready to go this winter. They hosted the Peter Jennings Production crew as well as one or two groups this winter. We were the first group to access the lodge for Kings and Corn.

    Our Crew

The dog was mesmerized by the rotation of the heli’s blades.

J Love and I logged all our laps together. This was the second drop of the second day with Lel. She got us freshies all day.

    Buxy, Nobis, Myself and Harms

After going super deep we crossed the divide and went and got even deeper. Whats a couple barrels of fuel amongst friends.

    Going to the goods.

    More K and C Tr

I have never seen so much foof in AK

After lunch we has some wide open terrain.

Check out the rock above J Love, teetering, ready to go.

This is Nobis at the tail end of this insane run. About 3,800 feet where we skied through so much different terrain it was mind numbing, it was like riding the Monarch Crest Trail on snow. We finished up by maneuvering through a couple different waterfalls.

More to come in a couple days

Not sure what plane that is but it definitely is not an A4 Skyhawk.

    Looks like a fun trip!

Whoa, nice trip. Skiing past waterfalls is awesome, I guess they're probably more predictable than sloughs.

    Isn't an A4 called a Phantom?

Reading this kind of stuff equals to getting poked in the eye with a pencil or getting kicked in the units with stilettos.

    Slightly amuzing but mostly painfull.
