Moab riders - need some input

Your gritty red dust plays havoc with pedals and drivetrains.

The last time I was there I sprayed down pedals and drivetrain with a spray that had some non-friction component that didn't also attract that dust and dirt. It really helped keep the dust out of the moving components and helped the pedals from becoming stiff and unworkable.

I remember it wasn't PAM cooking spray.

Also, I also recall using a certain kind of wax-based lube that didn't become easily contaminated by the dust. Maybe White lightning??

    Thanks in advance!

I like White lightning but be careful not to let it goop up too much. I clean with a watered down simple green solution, brush, rinse off and then a good dose of W.L.. Never fails. If you are coming our way, let us know (we will be letting you guys know when we go to Whistler / BC).

Thanks! Any more tips. Not for me but for a friend doing the Primal Quest adventure race down there.

I'd be more then happy to tour you guys around Pemby and Whistler but I don't do bikepark so will have to show you some of the "other" trails.

couple of the shops down there (rim cyclery for sure) carries ATB Lube, put a drop on each pin, wipe it off and you will get no sand issues. just don't get the drivetrain wet then run through deep sand.

Lee, I think yer thinking of Finish Line Krytech. Its a wax type lube that is a bit lighter than White Lightning. It doesn't goop up on pullys, cogs, chainrings, etc like WL.

I have no idea what spray you might be thinking of. Pedro's Bike Lust maybe? When I worked at Poison Spider we used heaps of Krytech and Bike Lust exclusively to keep the rental fleet going. My only gripe with Krytech is that is doesn't last particularly long (your friend should bring a small bottle, I'm thinking) and does not hold up to water very well at all. But it is the bomb in the dry, dry dust and sand.

I'm about to buy a bike (Trek Remedy 6) from said rental fleet. Any recommendations or warnings regarding this?

I'd like to second the ATB recommendation. I love that stuff. It's a bit hard to find though.
