Wheel dilemma, what can I do?

Well, it is not really a dilemma, but I got my hands on a Fox 36 RC2 to replace my Manipoo, but it looks like it is a through axle...

I am running CrossMax Enduros, which I love, is there anyway to get a bolt-on skewer for that wheelset or am I stuck having to look for a new wheel?

since no one else is gonna say anything
    you can;
sell it and buy an AM1, probably have money left over too
    or
sell your current front wheel and buy a new front wheel

why would no one else say anything? I figured that was going to be my only option

I bid on the RC2 because I kept on getting outbid on every auction for an AM1 and got the RC2 at a good price...

Mavic does make a bolt on skewer but it only for the wheelset that Vicious has, the DeeMax, not the CrossMax enduros...

    Talking

If your new fork is a through axle, then you need a wheel able to accept a 20mm through axle. Bolt ons are about 10mm so no worky. You need a new wheel homie. Unless you want to trade that sweet new fork for my Vanilla.

Edit for clarity - You need a new front wheel. Period.

You can get a crossmax xl front that's convertible between qr and 20mm.

    Very good wheel too.

I knew that I need a new wheel, just thought the maggot collective could maybe come up with a great idea!

Now the question is: do I keep the RC2 and get a new front wheel and subsequently sell my Manipoo and Enduro front wheel, or do I try to trade the RC2 for an AM1 and keep my existing wheels?

Keep the fork and get a wheel. Don't forget to tighten those four bolts on the bottom of the fork when you put on our wheel, they keep the axle from vibrating loose (which it will do). I have that fork and love it. Wish I could say the same for the SRAM X0 derailleur.

Im sure the fox is a great fork, and its definitely going to be stiffer than an AM1, but at least for me it would be such a royal PITA to have to deal with a 20mmTA everytime I wanna put the bike in my car. Plus Ive seen AM1s for sale at online retailers for ~400 easy. I guess it also depends on how much ya wanna spend and effort spent selling stuff.

Honestly, either option is great, youll be happy either way. If we ever meet up to go riding, you can test out my AM1.

I have a rear hitch on my truck, so removing the front wheel is a non-issue. I paid a little over 400 for the RC2, a pretty schweet deal considering the retail for that fork. Granted, I will have to sink some other mullah for a wheel, but I figure it is a good investment and I will get $$ back on my Manipoo and Crossmax Enduro wheel

and Phil, i most definitely want to ride your bike

I have the exact same "problem". I am running Xmax Enduros on my Cove hardtail and when I got my Spec Enduro (with 36R) I was hoping to switch the Xmax over. I could have sworn when I got the Xmax Enduros that it came with the 20mm adaptor like the Xmax XL but I am now sadly mistaken.

For me it's probably worth running at least just the rear Xmax all the time on the Enduro because the rear hub is Deore loose ball bearing.

If I were to just get a new hub and build up my existing CrossMax, what would you suggest?

    is your wheel a 32h or 28h?

honestly, any sealed bearing 20mm hub is fine... whatever flow's shop has in stock maybe?

32h and you are right. This is about expediting the process to get back on the dirt ASAP. The fork shipped from CT today, so it may be worth it to get a whole wheel, so it is ready come fork delivery time...

It turns out rebuilding the Enduros would not create a very strong wheel. After much discussion with flow I am going with a Crossmax XL front.

Ron - do your current Mavics have the straight pull spokes and funky hubs like my Deemaxs's? If so, they get their strength from the specific hub and how they are laced.

I think you are better off going with the full new wheel as planned.

Yeah, they are 24 spoke hubs, so trying to rebuild on another hub would be futile...
