Has your pet ever done this?

I heard a loud screech coming from our mudroom the other day. Sounded like a cat fight inside the house. I run in there, and my cat is convulsing on the floor. She appeared to have her claw stuck in the carpet, and was trying to get it loose. I helped her get it loose, and pet her until she stopped seizing. I could tell she did not know who I was, or what I was doing. Once she calmed down, I could see her eyes re-focus, and she finally could recognize me. She was drooling pretty exsessively, and panting.

Luckily, I was home sick most of last week. Otherwise, I would have never seen this happen. I had her to the vet 5 minutes later. They took some blood (hers, not mine), ass raped me, and sent me home with a lot less money than I had earlier that day.

So, anyone had this happen? Seems like she might have just freaked the fuck out over having her claw stuck. Her pea brain could not comprehend it, so she freaked. Make sense?

Oh, and the "kill all cats" crew can feel free to not chime in. This cat was trained as a dog. A small, hairy, leave at home for a week with just a litter box and a full bowl of food and water, dog. She has been with me since college, and has lived in NY, Boulder, CT, and FL. She has also travelled across the county 3 times with me. Most cats, I don't like. This one is a long time friend.

cats just somtimes freak. My cat likes to jump into open boxes. One time she did a leap from a desk into a moving box that was filled with styrofoam pellets. She freaked and stuck her claws out, managing to get about 3 stuck on each foot. She freaked out. Rolling around on the floor screaming and trying to get them off her paws. After she was sucessful, she cleaned herself and acted like it had never happened

Did the vet have any suggestions? cats and dogs can have freak-outs but it sounds like a full blown seizure, which may be from something else. positive vibes+++++++++++. On a side note, most neurologists will tell you you get one unexplained seizure in your life(I knew a kid in HS who had one), meaning sometimes someone's brain just does a quick misfire for any number of non-serious reasons(including stress). Maybe cats get one free one too?

That was pretty much their consensus. It just happens sometimes. Haven't heard back on the blood work yet. Just wondering if this is common, or I should be worried. The cat is only 10. She shouldn't have any major problems yet.

Warthog, it sounds like a seizure. My cat had one a few years ago that left her tail partly paralyzed. It was very scary, more for me than for her.

But I wanted to let you know that she never had another one and except for a bent tail-tip she is fine.

Hopefully it's just an odd occurrance, like what my kitty had. My cat is my good friend too, so I understand how you feel. Let us know if she's okay.

Whatever the issue is, I am glad to hear your kitty is fine. A lot of people hate on cats, but some can be damn cool. Especially when they are raised as a dog.

++++++ Vibes sent and I hope that doesn't happen again- for your sake and for hers.

This is my cat/dog Swix. He is the shit! (he is sleeping on our dog's bed!)

My cat has done this, although we do not have a mudroom.

H got his front claw stuck in the couch cushion and rolled over, and you woulda though his world was gonna end. I popped him loose and he forgot about it 30 seconds later.

I just keep his fronts trimmed (not too long and sharp) and it doesn't happen.

P.S. My cat can kick your cat's ass. He's part mountain lion, you know.

Vibes for your cat, man. Definately sounds more like a seizure but, as stated above, it could be nothing, or something. More likely nothing though, I think, since it's never happened before.

PS Is the cat an idoor/outdoor cat? Any advice on moving with cats?

If you are traveling far or flying try petrelocation.com - the company I work for refers people who are moving (mostly state to state) to them. So far no complaints. And all sorts of pets - not just cats. One dude used the service to relocate his pet frogs. Weird.

Sounds like it was scary - I would freak if Moo had a convulsion. She has, though, had moments where she gets really dilated pupils and doesn't seem to recognize me, like she's going to attack out of nowhere. But I ignore her and it goes away.

Keep us updated on the blood work...

Moo- that is a great name.

Mine is named Rooney. She had no name, and I had gotten her about 3 weeks prior to a big outdoor festival in Deposit,NY, called The Rooney Festival. Well, Rooney was the hit of the party. Everyone wanted to kitty sit, and she got her share of dances in. She especially liked Hypnotic Clambake, and anything Zydeco.

So, she was named after a muddy ass hill in the middle of nowhere,NY, where hippies and freaks gathered to get wet, listen to music, and smell. Oh, they also liked to smoke weed there... don't tell anybody.

The blood work is fine. She is just a freak. I think it was her little way of saying,"Just cause I'm an indoor cat now, doesn't mean I don't need to go to the vet."

As far as travelling with a cat. Throw 'em in the car and head on out. That is what I always did. She liked to sleep on the dash with the defrost on. Strange cat. I have a pic of her in a tree in Nebraska in my office. We had driven all day, on the way to Boulder, and needed a break. The cat was going nuts, so after a quick litter box session(I kept it covered up until she needed it), we let her climb around in a small tree for about 1/2 an hour. That pic still reminds me of moving out west, and all the fun I had. Glad she will still be around for a while longer.

Sometimes they'll just freak the fuck out. One of my GF's cats likes to chew on and play with plastic bags; the other day he got tangled up in one so that the handle was looped around his waist. He started fucking freaking out and running in circles over and under and around the bed, while screaming at the top of his lungs. Once he realized that wasn't doing it, he started pissing himself (still running in circles and yowling). Meanwhile, the other cat (who is neurotic as anything anyway) was freaking out as well, running back and forth and caterwauling like anything.

I was up in my room today, and I heard my dog making terrible sounds, like he was being beaten. So I ramble on downstairs, and he's barking crazily at a cat. That was funny.

No - she's very social. But, like her mom, she likes her space
When Splat stayed with me, she was super playful at times, and at times she was in hiding. She particularly liked his toes.

    Yeah, no shit!
Moo thought my feet hanging off the end of the bed were claw toys.
Then, when I moved them after she clawed me, she would attack them and almost get her claws stuck in me.

I know it's not supposed to be funny, but that made me LOL. Cats are such crazy fackers sometimes. Watching mine do their cat thing (which sometimes includes freaking out) is more amusing than any tv show!
