    Skiing without equipment

    FACK! FUCK! FACK!!!
Travel thousands of miles to ski and after hours of travel I finally arrive in St. Anton Austria......without any luggage what so facking ever! One ski day out of 6 possible has now come and gone and I was forced to sit in around drinking beer and schnaps instead of ripin the shit out of the Arlberg region.
Words cannot describe my frustration and having travelled here alone I have no one else to vent to so................
    Seriously pissed!!!

    day 2
Few inches of snow overnight and blue sky today.
My skies arrived but that is all.
Going to make some calls to find out if insurance will cover the purchase of a complete kit. (I have absolutely nothing but skies and the clothing on my back) If not I guess I am back to the bar to get shitty drunk again.

    Go

Never check your boots. Always bring them in your carry-on. Everything else can be rented without much pain.

Carry on in a back pack style boot bag:
    Boots
    gloves
    goggles
    hat
    long undies/ski socks
    ski pants
    anything you must have.

    Wear:
    ski jacket
    spring gloves

Ski days are too valuable to loose!

That sucks had that happen one time on my way to go Heli skiing luckily I had carried my boots on the plane. I was however able to get the airlines to pay for replacement gear! Seeing how your clothing has not shown up 2 days into your trip they should have to buy you a change of clothes That is a resonable item I would just make the clothing items you buy be ski clothing!
You will have to submit your receipts to the airline but they will end up paying you in the end if you are persistent.
    Good luck!

Same exact thing happed to Truth on his way to La Grave on Saturday. As of yesterday, I spoke with him while he and roo were cresting the pass to La Grave and he said that the airline has no idea where his stuff has gone. Seems like a coincidence - maybe these euros hate us Americans and are determined to ruin our ski holidays when possible. Man, that would suck if it's true.

Good luck to both of you. Get out there no matter what it takes!

Bum deal, Truth's got to be pissed, those are brand-new, never touched snow skis that they lost correct?

Best of luck to both, as mentioned if your persistent and polite they will usually comp you pretty well.

edit, just found an article relating to this, and it's not good.

Flanker - hope your gear shows up. Sucks to be half way around the world staring at sick lines without your gear.

Once you are back in Canada, lets hook up for some turns.
I went out there in search of experience. To taste, and to touch, and to feel as much as a man can, before he repents.

What airline. I know that KLM has been know to fuck shit up. Did it to me on the way to La Grave. They told me to go look in a pile of about 30 pairs of unclaimed skies that were destined for various places. Got my stuff personally delivered the next day. It made sleeping in a back machine depot a lot easier in Grenoble. had my back pack and slept quite well.

I told them it was costing me thousands of dollars per day because I was a guide and was missing serious heli/filming time. (all lies) Told them every day I missed would cost them thousands of dollars (more lies). My stuff arrived with many appologies.

    Good luck.

Look into your insurance. Lots of little fine print things that don't cover lost gear. Also call your travel agent. This is the situation they are hired for.

Its simple. If your skis do not arrive with you, then make arangements with the airline before you leave the airport to pick up any expense associated with you needing to rent gear. They will do this.

Also explain that if you do not recieve your gear very soon the expenses for them will add up, and then tell them you'll only be in St. Anton, or wherever, for two days, and then traveling to Italy. This will help them understand why it is their interest to find your skis and send them to you ASAP.
And yes, travel with your boots if you need to ski right away.

I'm in business as of 2pm yesterday afternoon!
Current conditions are sick, sick and more sick. Has to be snowing an 1" an hour right now and has been doing so for the last 15 hours.
I flew American Airlines with 2 connections and from what I can tell by the bag tags, my luggage never made it on the plane from the start. (Calgary)
Lesson learnt... Alway travel with your ski clothing as boots, poles and skis can be rented.
Sure hope Truth gets his gear as if he is anything like me would have drunk himself almost to death by now.

American Airlines sucks monkey's ass. I flew from Chicago to Calgary one time. They lost everything everything I had. Luckily I had my back pack with the ski clothes and carried on the boots. In my ski bag were 2 pairs of skis, new, just mounted. New poles, North Face Shell, spare gloves, goggles, base cloths, boot dryer.

American Airlines kept telling us the stuff was coming. Skied a week at Sunshine and still no ski bag or luggage. Flew home and still no skibag or luggage. Oh and then they tried to reduce what they owed me for renting skis and getting clothes. I threw one hell of a temper tantrum at the Calgary airport to get reimbursed for the demos and underwear and shit.

One month later on a friday night at 11pm this guy shows up with my ski bag. I notice the lock was cut off, so I made him stand there while I opened the back. Only one pair of ski's were in it. New K2 fours and the edge and sidewall were completely blown out. Fucking ruined. Now I lost everything. American Airlines would only reimburse me for $600USD because they said because of the Geneva Convention on international flights that is all they are liable for, and I should have purchased extra insurance for my stuff. Bastards

Some AA employee got new shit for sure at Calgary, because according to the slips my ski bag flew on the plane with me
