paging photo mags: help me chose photos for a local comp: NSR

So I was thinking of entering a local photography cometition. Nothing too professional so I thought I might have a chance at a minor prize. I'd love advice on which shots to enter. Below is the short list, but if you have too much spare time and want to look at http://thepoolroom.com/walshy under the photo section and suggest others please do. I'm biased to some photos due to the experience at the time and would love some unbiased thoughts. And sorry about the scan quality on some, I'm only looking for content/composition comments here.

    Thanks guys!

My personal fave is the 4th one. I like the look of the sky behind the kid. Nice perspective.

I dunno, I like the squirell one just cause it's funny but the quality of the photo doesn't look so hot. I really like the b/w shot, I've applied a few adjustments in photoshop to make it look better btw. But I also really like the first underwater shot, although the colors and sharpness aren't really sitting right.

    Probably the b/w one.

    In order of preference

Kid on the swing-good composition, has a nice feel to it
B/W-the B/W gives it the appropriate aged feel,Migdet's redo is top notch
1st U/W-but it needs more color, less blue, like 99.99% of U/W's taken
I should probably change my username to IReallyDon'tTeleMuchAnymoreDave.

I like the kid on the swing and the gopher ones best. Nice!

Um, it looks like that first pic is upside down.

on that note, I like the b&w photo best. Maybe add a little contrast and you'll have an extra better submission.

Kid on the swing if you can only enter one. The B/W if you can enter two.
    Both are nice shots.
There's a lot to be said for nowhere.

Thanks guys! Yeah, the colour and contrast is very off in all the scanned shots. The squirrel quality is actually pretty good. The underwater shots are on slide and actually REALLY vibrant (shot on astia 100) but I only had use of a shitty slide scanner to upload them. Definitely not much blue in them in the originals. I think from here the kid on the swing is in. The kid is actually a mag's son!

Ski-adk, it is upside down, but I like it that way. It's not nearly as obvious in the original print, hence the composition I used.

From one photog to another, I think you should submit the kid on the swing, but do it in black and white and try to get as much contrast as you can while still making it look good...either that or I know of a really cool hand-color-esque technique in Photoshop...PM me and I'll give you the steps if you want to try it...

Oh, and I like the B/W shot with the birds, but most judges hate shots of buildings that aren't straight...and you'd have a hell of a time trying to straighten that one in PS

Thanks Storm11, but I think I'm going to leave it in colour. The original print has a lot richer colours, and the orange and the blue contrast really well. The overbearing grey in the left hand side of the scanned shot doesn't show as much either.

Yeah, I like bent shots of buildings myself (wide angle distortion phile here), but I know what you mean!

I really like the one with the child on the swing - its an interesting & story telling composition...

The first underwater one isn't bad either, so long as the colors are vibrant in the actual print.

    This one is a classic:
