Shiiiit, I'm about to go crank my DIN up another notch after an incident yesterday. Gotta clean the mud off the topsheets, too.

PNW spring skiing is about to get prime! Finally stoked on skiing again after a lackluster April and May.

The skis on the right are Dynafit D712s (170cm, 72mm waist) for long tours over rolling terrain or super-early season. They don't see much action these days, but they actually do perform pretty well on steep, firm terrain for what they are.

Not sure what's up with that notch! It's not there in the RAW file from the camera -- seems like an artifact (a really strange one) in the creation of the JPEG. I re-converted it, but the same deal happened.

    Git after it!!

I wouldn't be posting a "waxing" thread if I were not on the D/L.

Now that you're done with yours, can you come over and wax my quiver please?

Is it bad when you can identify skis by their bases?

Since we're on the subject of storage wax; does anyone know, from experience, of any reason not to use old candles as storage wax?

I did this last spring and then just scraped off the excess and skied one 'em that way early season. No problems and it saved the good wax for the season. However, I have a few buddies who refuse to do it and seem to think it will somehow harm their skis.

    Anyone?

I would suspect that it protects your bases (and achieves the "summer storage" purpose), but, hmm.... I'm guessing:

    1) Maybe it could be "dirty"? It might have some contaminants that make their way into the process, while dedicated ski wax is a little more "pure".
    2) It probably doesn't have as good glide characteristics as dedicated ski wax, and to remove it you wind up having to do a wax + hot scrape then another wax + cold scrape...so you wind up using the same amount of "good" wax. Whether this matters at all -- or matters during the early season -- is a personal choice.

    Just a couple o' guesses.

Personally, I use a cheap, soft wax for the storage prep. However, I have not candles in the house.

if you wanna be cheap, dont bother using candles, youll have dyes and scents and crap. just pickup some parafin wax from the grocery store used for canning, I even think it might be cheaper that candles, plus you dont have to worry about a wick getting in the way. The idea is just to keep the base protected from oxygen / oxidation and possibly dirt from getting on the bases and getting ground in depending on how and where you store them.

    Ding ding ding!

(I gave credit for the original G4 guess since it's the same G4/G40/G41 family.)

Just got finished up with the summer storage waxing.... Did the resort skis mid-april, now I just did the TX:EX's and the bros, but I scraped the bros 'cause they're going to Glacier next weekend. Kind ready for summer - I'm getting stoked on climbing....

    Close!

FR (Spat), FR (Got), Dynafit (SV), 977 (Wiz-might remount), FR+ (G40), Dynafit (Buddha-might remount), Dynafit (D712).

(I got 2 mo. pairs of FR+ around. Plan to mount one on the dp138s & swap the other pair with the Dyanfits from the Buddhas (dp120s get Dynafits, then)).
