    Knee pain and clicky noise

Last Memorial weekend me and my buds had a round of drunken tennis. Somehow I think I fucked my knee up though I don't know how (No falls or anything).

There's pain on my left knee just above the kneecap. When I entend my leg I here a clicky crunchy noise at about 135 degrees. Something does not feel right.

The pain is more of an annoyance vs. actually stopping me from doing shit. Any idea what this might be? (Pain is about 3 or 4 out of 10). My only concern is making it worse by mtb/surfing/skateboarding/mtb.

    Su Pu,

Sounds like some patello-femoral pain to me. Either that or your new wife has you on your knees a bit too much........ can you say pussy whipped boys and girls.

Seriously, PF pain is pretty common. One of the more common causes is hamstring tightness. A bit of TLC with the knee and a lot of hammy stretches would be the first place to start. Give ther stretching a few weeks to work. If it doesn't go away let me know.

I had a similar issue that resulted from a collision with a rock last year. Had it x-rayed after the accident, which showed no damage. About a year later, the knee still didn't feel right and would pop when extended.

I went to an ortho becuase I was worried about further damage. Got an mri, which showed a frayed meniscus and a scarred acl. Doc said wasn't anything out of the ordinary, but I was still concerned since it didn't feel quite right. The doc injected some cortisone, which made my knee feel better.

i have lots of clicking popping noises when extending my leg. when you extend your leg you are putting alot of force on your knee cap. your patelar tendon becomes tight and all the forces from lifting your lower leg run along this tendon putting pressure on your knee cap. if you have any junk under your knee cap....scarring or have problems with your knee cap sliding in its groove you will notice it when extending your leg. crepitous (SP?) is what it is called. its kinda normal for some people. maybe you wanna search it. some people just get some pops and clicks and crunching noises when extending thier knee. but if this is recent and was nt happening before....its probably due to something not normal. I dont know what exactly you should do....but sounds like youve got some junk under your knee cap.

I have that crunchy/clicky noise going on in both my knees. Chondramalacia (spelling?) was the diagnosis. No pain, just nasty sounding stuff. Keep the patella tracking properly w/ exercises and ice it.

Torn cartilege is a likely suspect. Might be one of the menesci or articular cartilege.
