    fixing your board

What is the protocol for getting a surf board fixed. Do you take them into a shop or do you do it yourself. I have a couple minor cracks that I want to get filled in.

It's not hard to do yourself, but can be a pain. This book:

is the gospel. If you follow the directions it will look as good as new.

If you've never done it - or if it is a brand new board and you want to keep it looking new, take it to your local shop.

If not, give it a shot. I find suncure products to be very good for minor dings - but it will break down over time and exposure, so not the best for larger dings or fin box jobs.

Key is to sand down the area around the ding (and make sure it is dry) so that the product has a good bonding surface. Place a sheet of mylar plastic on top, let cure in the sun for 5-10 minutes (depending on depth of the ding). I typically will let my boards sit inside a full night, and then the next day, pull off the plastic and fine sand (200 grit) to make it look good.
