    Helmet Cam

There's probably already been posts on this, but i'm too JONG to find them. So if needed...just JONG and redirect. If not, what should be looked for in purchasing a helmet/head cam? No worries about mounting it though, I'm sure i can handle that. How much resolution? What size lens? Comfortable weight? Power source? Anything?

I have been wrestling with a hemlet cam this season. My advice:

    - get high resolution - 480 lines or something
    - get a recargable battery back for the helmet cam. the AA batteries die
    - LANC is the way to go. This allows you to start/stop filming with a remote control button which you can have right in front of you.
    - the wide angle, zoomed out lenses look good for 1st person action

We have been using one from helmetcamera.com. Vids come out good.

cctv = closed circuit TV (as in security camera)

    no auto-focus
    probably not colour either
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

You know -- I really don't know. I thought it would be necessary but I haven't used one and the helmet cams mentioned don't talk about focusing.

    I'd say you want a fixed-focus lens, rather than one that's auto-focus.

Since your head will be moving with the camera on it, you won't want auto-focus, and since you're not zooming that won't matter either.

Basically, you want a lens that's got a nice, wide shot, with a fixed focus; pretty simple camera.....

    DONT BUY IT!!!

i did...i built my camera from a CCTV cam, cloured.
Coulour balance sucks, burnouts in bright light (not enough aperature) picture cuality isnt that good either (was it like,420lines or something) and it took lot of cabeling and building.
And aftrer all, it cost the same or a bit more than those easy to use, good quality packages that people mentioned.
I have never been good with facts.
