I just saw this for CA-108. Can anyone confirm that the pass is open?

I called the summit ranger station. The road is opening today at noon. Most campgrounds and side roads are closed. Lots of snow at the summit. Easy way to get BC if you can find a place to pull over. Apparently not much parking or pullover space at the summit.

Sonora TR from last year to fuel the road opening stoke.

After reading the first paragraph of the TR its funny to see that not much has changed this year…still in the dilemma of going deep or hitting the roadside attractions. Decisions, decisions.

Let's hope so. Last memorial day had banks about twice overhead.

I can confirm that Sonora Pass is open. I can also confirm that is is really good. I have some pictures to sort through and hopefully I'll get them posted tomorrow. No Name Peak is looking great.
Now to rub it in a little bit.
After a work day some people just go home and have a microwave salisbury steak dinner and view reruns of Golden Girls or something like that.
Today after work I went to the grand opening of Sonora Pass, skipped dinner and enjoyed fresh sweet corn snow and enjoyed the views from over 9000 feet.
I also met a snowboarder at the top of the rock peak to the west of the pass. We were the only two up there for dusk patrol besides my three dogs.
I will be returning to Sonora Pass a lot in the near future. Probably Sunday or Monday and then for repeat dusk patrol mission(s) on Wednesday and/or Thursday.

    It was still setup late.
Northeast facing and shady areas just starting to firm up a bit.
Northwest facing sunny areas softening, but not sloppy.

Nice Vets. Can't wait to see the pics.

*FYI* As of yesterday morning, Ebbets is now open until 7 miles past Monitor [jct 89/4] about up to Noble Lake. I drove up yesterday to scout and will be heading back up in a little while Silver Peak is covered deep and easily accessible good parking.

    well!
just about an hour ago we bagged our shasta plans for the weekend
    weather/snowpack just looks too iffy
    SO
I think we're going to hit up the sonora pass area instead! no idea what our plans are - i've never been, but hopefully get a look around, ski some good stuff, and maybe meet some of you folks wandering around out there.
we're leaving in about an hour, so if you've any last minute suggestions, i'd love to hear em.
    have a great weekend!

Lego and I are still in for our North Lake/Piute Pass/Alpine Col tour, but if the weather looks nasty (and doesn't soften things up) then we'll be at Sonora Pass Sunday or Monday.

Vets - if I actually get everything moved out of my house by Tuesday night, I'd be down to ski Sonora Pass Wednesday with you or any willing parties. My first day on the job in Sacramento is Thursday, June 1st.

I sent you a PM asking for details on Silver Peak. That sounds real good to me.

Sounds good. Let me know if you and Lego want to go on dusk patrol Wednesday.

Sonora is open and is $$$. The snow from last week smoothed things out up high and the temps have been cool keeping the snow great all day.

*UPDATE* Ebbets is 100% open as of noon friday. There was a decent storm last night. Snow stuck on the ground down to 5500 or so. Kinney Res. [8500'] is still completely frozen over. 12+' snow walls for 2-3 miles to the summit. [Kinda like driving through a tunnel on a 1 1/2 lane road.] 4" of fresh at the summit at 7 am today.

So did any of you ski Sonora Pass today? It was windy as $#^@ today and last night in Bishop, so Lego and I just went on a hike starting around the North Lake area. Then it started to snow - that was cool! But we cancelled our tour and decided to stay with day skiing instead.

    Tomorrow = Virginia Lakes

Monday = Valley of the Chutes at Sonora Pass. If anyone is interested, we're going to be at the last flat part before you get up to the top of the pass, on the side of the road where you see the big waterfall. We'll be there around 7-7:30 or so. Sunday night we'll probably try and camp at Leavitt Meadow, but if full, then along the side of the road somewhere. Don't bother us. ;-)
