    Maggette Utarded Bike Coordination Thread

So, since we keep posting in that other thread, I thought we should just use this one for everyday use!

Post in here when and where you want to ride and others will know when and where to meet!

Tomorrow we are doing Lost Prospector, 6pm.

Friday Re and I will be out again as well, not sure where yet, around 5:30ish.

actually, as a matter of course, we should include meeting spots/directions for each ride/trailhead anyway

sweeneys for example, may be Park City mountain resort parking lot.

any suggestions for friday's ride? maybe something in PC? I don't know my way around PC though. I could -possibly- find lost prospector again but otherwise.... anyone who can drop some PC trail knowledge would be cool.

if all else fails i have heard some rumors about some uh "Stuff" that was built off a certrain trail in a certain canyon that would be cool just to check it out cause i never knew it was there before. or....i've still never ridden bobsled.

you're not missing out on the bobsled, at least that's my opinion. i would much rather ride in PC than there.

I won't be around for Friday's ride, but some other PC options include: Sweeny's, Glenwild, Round Valley, or Gamble Oak. I would only do Round Valley and Glenwild if it's not too hot, since there's not a lot of shade on either of those trails. Glenwild is definitely more of an aerobic workout than Round Valley and you can always opt for the 'free-ridey' trails that spur off towards Jeremy Ranch. Sweeny's is pretty fun, butI haven't really ridden it without more terrain open. I heard that Gamble Oak is in pretty good shape too. A couple more weeks, and we'll have quite a few more options.

I can't be the only maggot that wants to ride with the maggettes.

    They're good people.

AC - you're not a nerd! I am also hopelessly addicted to Lost. Well maybe that makes both of us nerds....

Due to my less-than-capable back, I will be home watching it as well. Hopefully Friday I can get my TV-watching butt back on the bike.

Ok, well I love LOST too - we'll just have to ride really quick so we're back in time

Directions to White Pine Touring/Lost Prospector from Kimball Junction:

Take the main drag into PC -
    Turn left on Kearns Blvd.
    Turn right on Bonanza drive.

White Pine touring is a couple hundred yards down on the left-
there's some parking in their lot, but limited -
there's also another lot that you access via a left turn onto Prospector Ave.
(before WhitePine) - it's on the right, and there's plenty of parking spaces.

You can park there, jump up to the Rail Trail -there's a sign right there that may actually be a better meeting spot, though whitepine is just down to the right, and we have to pass it anyway.

Seeing the girls gettin after it almost, ALMOST, inspires me to ride some XC.

Thankfully that strange desire goes away when I go dirt jumping. One of these days though...... especially once the crest is good to go.

    Keep chargin' ladies!!

NO. You move to Utah, like you said you were gonna. see, we're all here

and CS, the ONLY reason i'm riding anything XC is to improve general skills for DH
that, and cause I could stand to lose a few pounds...

Well, Sweeney's is definately dry to the top, at least up to where you have to ride the cat track to the top. We ran to that junction this morning, with dogger smelling everything he could on the way (and pulling me to and fro of course, grin). It was nice and dry up to the road, and dry up as far from there as I could see. I could see doing that on friday - a super sweet workout (warning: I'll bitch and moan on the climb...) but a lot of fun to come down too.

With the 80+ degree weather, I'm sure it's all good to go. I vote for that - though Ski Monkey and I may end up going DHing in Bountiful instead that day and will hopefully be back in time, but there's a chance we may not.

Otherwise, I could be talked into Gamble Oak - I'm not familiar with that trail very much and am always interested in new trails (new to me that is).

so friday 5/26: me, AC, and skiguide for sure. sounds like skiguide at least knows PC better than ac and I, so we can ride somewhere in PC for sure. at least we've narrowed it down between cities.

Just got my X-ray results back...

Seems I have some arthritis and the beginnings of disc compression in my lower spine. And I have a genetic disorder that makes my spine susceptible to injury. All of it could have been pre-existing, but it still sucks. I'm 26 for God's sake!

So, I can hope it's still just a muscle strain and not disc damage. However you slice it though, I'm a prime candidate for some serious back problems when I'm older. And you think you take such good care of yourself...

I have the same xray results (arthritis and degenerative disc disease) - at age 29 so I hear ya. we've been abusing our bodies with tons of sports & activity!

pulled the back out pretty bad at Solitude in March, got a sled ride down, so that's definitely been affecting my early season biking.

really, though - it's just a matter of working harder at improving core strength, especially as we get older.

Good riding tonight with minimal casualities (hehe). We'll definitely have to keep riding. I'm super excited about more terrain opening up in PC, and can't wait til we can ride Crest (although it may be July before we can do that!!) Anyway...I'm usually up for M, W, F rides and longer ones on the weekends (depending on my homework situation).

Enjoy the weekend....I'll be riding in Fruita.

Lost Prospector was a good time last night, great riding with you ladies! Looking forward to whatever we ride on Friday. Grin...

And I'm also with you on the back problems, they suck! Sorry to hear that so many of us are there...

For me, car wreck at 17, I was stopped and the guy rear ended me at about 50mph. Two compression fractures (at least a couple of my 7 doctors thought ), lumbar sprain, severe whiplash, yadda yadda, resulting in growth shots into my tendons & ligaments (the most painful thing ever, pain down to my toes), steroid treatments, docs pushing for surgery (which I resisted), and 2+ years of PT, blech.

Core exercises, core core core! That's all I can say.

Was told I'd never be able to run (jarring) or ride horses, was forbidden from diving and bowling and ski/boarding and other stuff that twists/tweaks the back, pretty bland forecast. The first couple years after PT was over, I didn't do any of my back exercises like I was supposed to (LAZY), and CONSTANTLY had problems. Uber pain, limited activity only, would push myself and climb or ride a horse or the like, and the back would go bye-bye for at LEAST a week or two. Misery. Gained 45 pounds over those years, yes, I was a 175 lb chica with NO muscle...

Lesson learned. I do back exercises pretty much every day, and ab work a little less often but still quite a bit. I can run, ride bikes, ski/snowboard, all sorts of things I wasn't supposed to be able to do without agony, and I'm usually only having minimal pain, if that. Down 30-ish pounds, healthier, back only goes out on my occasionally and that's usually when I've slacked on the core exercises. I was even cleared by my doctor to do skeleton, with those G-forces and the slamming into walls! Strong muscles can make a HUGE difference....

Anyway, that's all I know. Sorry for the long post....hope it encourages you to not limit yourself too much. Grin.

    Anyway, see you chicas Friday!

If you want to do Prospector again, I've got a friend that is a beginner that would like to come. Otherwise, I'd like to try out some other trails, and she can come another time as well. And 6pm is probably a better meeting time for me (and her) and also for heat. Grin.

I'd like to do LP cause I've never done it before if that's ok with you gals.

I'm sure Re and I can kill a half hour in PC before we meet up.

How does that sound? 6 @ from Lynx:and meet in the parking lot for the rail trail that is next to the condos (it's right behind El Chubasco).

You girls make me feel wimpy with my wussy muscle strain and arthritis! Seriously, I'm getting some flexibility back and I should be back to my normal routine pretty soon. I had been doing core strength exercises everyday, so hopefully that will make the bounce-back even faster. Hopefully I could meet up with y'all by next week.

Thanks for sharing the horror stories. It gives me hope to see that you've all dealt with back pain and are still doing the things you love.
