    New Product Ideas

What would you buy off the shelf?

I'm a product design student who is looking to add some concepts to my portfolio.

Anyone out there have any ideas for some new products, hard goods, soft goods, or blue sky - skies the limit type stuff? You know, something to make your outdoor time more fun...

I'm not exactly a mechanical engineer, so a product that has a high visual appeal + a strong functional application would be the kind of things I'm looking for.

Not planning to get rich off your idea...just gonna draw and do some 3D renderings if possible.

    super random idea i had this past xmas;
a snow globe that has an internal micropump to circulate water and the snow\glitter
seems like you could easily incorporate this into the windup mechanism used to play music

some guy just came up with colored bubbles. they said it was impossible. so now you can top that, and make them musical. you'll make a fortune.

i'd also like an easy button. come to think of it, since you're asking people to do your work for you, sounds like you already have one.

Bio-skins for touring. With flaggella on the bottom to propel the skier up hill. Somebody here mentioned this in another thread, but I thought it worth repeating.

Yeah, I'm asking people to go to class for me, to do my projects, get my degree, to think, to build my portfolio and wipe my ass. You got it!

I'd really like a simple, easy, combination FRS walkie-talkie / avy beacon. It would make it much easier to carry both. It would seem pretty easy to design. Come up with some very clever way to attach it to your body/gear and maybe have some sort of decent remote mic/speaker on your collar. Maybe even throw a PLB on there? Oh, and keep it small. No bigger than a smartphone (Treo).

Also some sort of low profile back pack that doesn't interfere with sitting on the chairlift. Oh, and it should have an integrated back protector so I can get rid of that piece of equipment.

I'll have to think of some more.

Sounds like you've thought about this a lot. Awesome ideas. I am already thinking about a low profile pack for ski lifts. Thanks!

I would like an idea generator. Then I'd never have to think for myself again.

    I'd like a time machine.

And one of those remote controls that stops time, like in that new Adam Sandler movie.

Have you ever seen a backpack with a system mechanism that allows the user to easily and securely switch the pack to the front? Most likely this would be temporary use, to relieve some of the weight pressure, and cool off the back region...without having to take the pack off.

How about a thing that's kind of round, with like a center rotating axis/pivot kinda thingy...? You could kind of use it to move other random stuff around, group it in pairs or maybe...?

    nevermind, stupid idea.

Ok, I am imagining a sort of harness, or pliable frame that you wear on your back. The frame has 'tracks' on it with various 'inlets' that allow for bags with swivels and hinges to be attached, then slid into place and locked. I think this pack would be better geared toward smaller items, food, first aid, iPods, so that you can slide whatever bag you want - to your chest, or say around your hip...developing...

How about one that locks your hands in place so that you're incapable of typing?
