TR: Dirt, Sun, And Fun...a day at Sundance

Skiguide and I headed down to Sundance this morning to meet up with Ski Monkey and Yentna for a day of riding. The day started off with a bang when we pulled in the parking lot and skiguide realized she hadn't brought any shorts. Luckily the (small) shop that they have onsite had a few pairs on the rack, and luckier yet, she found a pair that fit (selection of sizes was slim, maybe one left in each size...at best).

We got everything together, bought the passes, and headed for the lift. The weather was perfect...clear skies, slight breeze...and the trails looked almost empty, there weren't many people up that early. First run we decided to head down Switchback Alley/Allie and out around Archie's Loop. We didn't stop much, but we did get this pic of skiguide rolling over some logs.

Also a quick stop to take in the view and get some scenic shots.

Second trip up we decide to come down Speed Trap and hook up with Rock & Roll. Yentna had a demon to overcome here, and we stopped to face it head on. Funny how things like this seem smaller after 2 years of thinking about it.

    Yentna sending it.

Monkey liked it enough to hit it twice.

After that, there was no stopping, just run after run. A few trips through Bobsled, another trip around Archie's Loop...everyone was happy. The trails started to get a little more crowded, and Monkey and Yentna needed to get home, so skiguide and I made one more run and called it a day as well.

Great day to be out, great friends to ride with...who could ask for more?

It certainly was a super fun day. Good company, smooth flowy trails, heaps of fun, plenty of practice with switchbacks. And I was trying to figure out where the Go-Ride Downhill race would be held in September, since there isn't really anything techy at Sundance. Found out they started cutting a new trail for the DH today, which should be open sometime in June....sounds like fun!

As for my demon, memory does such funny things to you! The last time I rode that section, or even LOOKED at it, was two years ago, my first summer of riding, and I was on a hardtail. That little section scared the shit out of me and I ate dirt there a couple times. Eek! In my memory, that was a good 4+ foot, techy, scary drop! Remembered it today, got there, and what a shock to see such a wee little thing! Heh. Awesome to see the progress and change in perspective since then.....

SUCH a great report! And nice job Yetna! Not to mention that the only time I have ridden with Skiguide was when she first started (ahhhh memories or her first wreck with LOTS of blood) and she is KILLING it now.

I am soooo stoked for biking season.

lol, girlski - that bloody day i think i was actually riding Yentna's old hardtail... but you and me actually rode another day that time you were here- up @ DV mid-mountain with the AGs, Lynx & Stump - i did slightly better that day.

but trust me, I still have a LONG way to go..... in much better shape so far this year, so that's helping... its a mental thing now

Nice pics! I haven't been there in a few years either.

'cause you did a damn good job designing it, therefore the maggettes enjoy wearing them........
