I've got the 2004 model and I love it so far... knock on wood, no problems yet. Of course, I'm not as hardcore as the other guys around here, so I don't beat up on it quite as much.

Feels a little short in the top tube but otherwise a good riding pretty high value bike if you're not going to ask it for too much. Cartrtidge pivots, four bar rear and an acceptable drivetrain should make for a predictable ride. Also easy to add discs since it comes with disc hubs.

Agreed, and I'm a girl so the shorter top tube should be better for me, but I find my back too hunched sometimes. That's really my only complaint. For the price, it's done me well so far. I did upgrade it to disc brakes (my version is the 2004 basic model).

The components are pretty basic, and the bike is a bit heavy, but like I said, it's pretty good for the price.

My handlebars bleached though - started black and are now bronze. Anyone else have that experience?

Maybe check out the Kona Dawg though, also a nice trail bike, slightly nicer than the FSR-XC.

I've had a 2005 FSR XC Pro for a few weeks now. Ditto the short top tube, other than that I love it.

I wasn't that impressed when I rode one. It might not relfect anything about the bike, just my personal preference, but it just didn't feel right to me. Not solid.
