I have resisted entering these political discussion since no one will be convinced by the other's comments, but this statement takes the cake. If you are saying you regard our country the same as your family and you would "kick ass" if someone killed it then why are you not in the armed forces right now fighting along side these brave men and women? After all part of "your family was murdered on 9/11.

According to you it doesn't matter if it's in Iraq or Afghanistan they are all terrorists and want to destroy "your family" so you have plenty of opportunity to "kick some ass".

I am not a fan of our President mainly because of his stance on environmental issues. From his administration's position on water rights, to the position on oil and alternative power research, to the position on air quality.

As far as the wars we entered into or started I am split. I supported invading Afghanistan, but did not support the war in Iraq especially the way we left the people at the end of the Gulf War. I don't think anyone should be surprised at the anti-american sentiment and mis-trust for the US considering we previously showed we break promises and were willing to abandon people when they need our help.

    "Fuck off you disgusting Nazi"

Buster Highmen's exasperated response to Mr Gyptian during a heated political thread and probably the funniest thing I ever read on the Powder message board. Ah, those were the days.

Wow you guys, I am a bit disappointed in how this one turned out. I'm even more saddened that nobody took the time to read the paper. You know it is actually possible to have a discussion where various sides or a position are debated without resorting to going Jerry Springer.

Oh well, here's a little more liberal propaganda bullshit that I think everyone should also read: PNAC - Statement of Principles
"It is not the result that counts! It is not the result but the spirit! Not what - but how. Not what has been attained - but at what price.

George W. Bush, The White House, USA
LAW ENFORCEMENT: I was arrested in Kennebunkport, Maine in 1976 for
driving under the influence of alcohol. I pled guilty, paid a fine, and
had my driver’s license suspended for 30 days. My Texas driving record has
been "lost" and is not available.
MILITARY: I joined the Texas Air National Guard and went AWOL. I refused
to take a drug test or answer any questions about my drug use. By joining
the Texas Air National Guard, I was able to avoid combat duty in Vietnam.
PAST WORK EXPERIENCE: I ran for U.S. Congress and lost. I began my career
in the oil business in Midland, Texas in 1975. I bought an oil company,
but couldn’t find any oil in Texas. The company went bankrupt shortly
after I sold all my stock. I bought the Texas Rangers baseball team in a
sweetheart deal that took land, using taxpayers money. With the help of my
father and our right-wing friends in the oil industry (including Enron CEO
Ken Lay), I was elected Governor of Texas.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS GOVERNOR: I changed Texas pollution laws to favor power
and oil companies, making Texas the most polluted state in the Union.
During my tenure, Houston replaced Los Angeles as the most smog-ridden
city in America. I cut taxes and bankrupted the Texas treasury to the tune
of billions in borrowed money. I set the record for the most executions by
any Governor in American history. With the help of my brother, the
Governor of Florida, and my father’s appointments to the Supreme Court, I
became President after losing by over 500,000 votes.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS PRESIDENT: I invaded and occupied two countries at a
continuing cost of over one billion dollars per week. I spent the U.S.
surplus and effectively bankrupted the U.S. Treasury. I shattered the
record for the largest annual deficit in U.S. history. I set an economic
record for most private bankruptcies filed in 12-month period. I set the
all-time record for the biggest drop in the history of the U.S. stock
market. I am the first president in U.S. history to enter office with a
criminal record. I set the all-time record for most days on vacation in
any one-year period. After taking-off the entire month of August, I
presided over the worst security failure in U.S. history. I am supporting
development of a nuclear “Tactical Bunker Buster,” a WMD. In my State Of
The Union Address, I lied about our reasons for attacking Iraq, then
blamed the lies on our British friends. I set the record for most campaign
fund-raising trips by a U.S. president. In my first year in office over
2-million Americans lost their jobs and that trend continues every month.
I set the all-time record for most foreclosures in a 12-month period. I
appointed more convicted criminals to administration than any president in
U.S. history. I set the record for the least amount of press conferences
by any president since the advent of television. I presided over the
biggest energy crisis in U.S. history and refused to intervene when
corruption involving the oil industry was revealed. I presided over the
highest gasoline prices in U.S. history. I have cut health care benefits
for war veterans and support a cut in duty benefits for active duty troops
and their families—in wartime. I have set the all-time record for most
people worldwide to simultaneously protest me in public venues (15 million
people) shattering the record for protest against any person in the
history of mankind. I’ve broken more international treaties than any
president has in U.S. history. I’m proud that the members of my cabinet
are the richest of any administration in U.S. history. My “poorest
millionaire,” Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker named after her. I
am the first president in U.S. history to order an unprovoked, pre-emptive
attack and the military occupation of a sovereign nation. I did so against
the will of the United Nations, the majority of U.S. citizens, and the
world community. I created the Ministry of Homeland Security, the largest
bureaucracy in the history of the United States government. I am the first
president in U.S. history to have the United Nations remove the U.S. from
the Human Rights Commission. I withdrew the U.S. from the International
Criminal Court. I refused to allow inspectors access to U.S. prisoners of
war detainees and thereby have refused to abide by the Geneva Convention.
I am the first president in history to refuse United Nations election
    inspectors (during the 2002 U.S. election). I am the all-time U.S. and
world record-holder for receiving the most corporate campaign donations.
My largest lifetime campaign contributor, and one of my best friends,
Kenneth Lay, presided over the largest corporate bankruptcy fraud in U.S.
history. My political party used the Enron private jets and corporate
attorneys to assure my success with the U.S. Supreme Court during my
election decision. I have protected my friends at Enron and Halliburton
against investigation or prosecution. More time and money was spent
investigating the Monica Lewinsky affair than has been spent investigating
one of the biggest corporate rip-offs in history. I garnered the most
sympathy for the U.S. after the World Trade Center attacks and less than a
year later made the U.S. the most hated country in the world, the largest
failure of diplomacy in world history. I am the first president in history
to have a majority of Europeans (71%) view my presidency as the biggest
threat to world peace and security. I changed the U.S. policy to allow
convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts. I have so far
failed to fulfill my pledge to bring Osama Bin Laden to
    justice.
RECORDS AND REFERENCES: All records of my tenure as Governor of Texas are
now in my father’s library, sealed, and unavailable for public view. All
records of SEC investigations into my insider trading and my bankrupt
companies are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view. All
records or minutes from meetings that I, or my Vice-President attended
regarding public energy policy are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for
    public review.
Please consider my experience when voting in 2004.

After being away from my desk for a day all I can say is "That's a lot of thread I'm not going to read."

Isn't it about time for an assasination attempt? I thought it was every fourth pres. was supposed to get one.

The president is a cowboy...thank god

It used to tick me off when the Muslim detractors in the Middle East, or the socialist detractors in Europe, Hollywood pundits and other anti-war types called our President a cowboy, but the more I think about it, the more glad I am that he is. When I was a kid, cowboys were my heroes. Well, I mean the ones in the white hats, not the black hats, who were the bad guys. There was Tom Mix, Buck Jones, Johnny Mack Brown, Hopalong Cassidy, Red Ryder, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, then later Marshall Matt Dillon, John Wayne, Paladin, and others.

What were common attributes of these legendary cowboys?
    Here are a few:

They were never looking for trouble.
But when it came, they faced it with courage.
They were always on the side of right.
They defended good people against bad people.
    They had high morals.
    They had good manners.
    They were honest.
They spoke their minds and they spoke the truth, regardless of what people thought or "political correctness," which no one had ever heard of back then.
They were a beacon of integrity in the wild, wild West.
They were respected. When they walked into a saloon (where they usually drank only sarsaparilla), the place became quiet, and the bad guys kept their distance.
If in a gunfight, they could outdraw anyone. If in a fist fight, they could beat up anyone.
They always won. They always got their man. In victory, they rode off into the sunset.
Those were the days when there was such a thing as right and wrong, something blurred in our modern world, and denied by many. Those were the days when women were respected and treated as ladies, because they acted like ladies. Now as then, I still like cowboys.. They represent something good, something pure that America has been missing.

Ronald Reagan was a cowboy. I like Ronald Reagan, who was brave, positive, and who gave us hope. He wore a white hat. To the consternation of his liberal critics, he had the courage to call a spade a spade and call the former Soviet Union what it was - the evil empire. Liberals hated Ronald Reagan. They also hate President Bush because he distinguishes between good and evil. He calls a spade a spade, and after 9-11 called evil, "evil," without mincing any words, to the shock of the liberal establishment. That's what cowboys do, you know. He also told the French to "put their cards on the table" (old West talk), which they did, exposing their cowardice and greed. The Arabs are wrong. In the old West, might did not make right. Right made right. Cowboys in white hats were always on the side of right, and that was their might.

I am glad my President is a cowboy. He will get his man. Cowboys do, you know.

Before you lower yourself to the mentality of a 10 year old having a temper tantrum and call me names perhaps we should be talking about the same thing. I was talking about the Shiites we encouraged to revolt and then left them to fend for themselves against an overwhelming force. My point is it seems like the administration is blaming all the anti-american sentiment on Sadam loyalists or terrorists, when there are other reasons as well. I am not sure this was fully contemplated before we invaded.

Just to put things straight - Bush isn't referred to as a cowboy because he's some noble hero riding the white steed of justice. It's because he's perceived as a trigger happy bully. Be proud of that.

Blithe quotations such as "Arabs are wrong" is the most feeble logic. Learn a little about the Palestinian situation and balance that against US aid to Israel and then reconsider the Arab view. How would you feel if a nuclear-capable neighbour was involved in grabbing land and you had virtually no recourse?

I have no time for terrorists, be they suicide bombers, wall builders or power crazed despots with their finger on a button they don't understand the repercussions of.

Polarised, violent, introspective views are just as abhorrent whether they stem from Arab, Jewish or Christian fundamentalists. Open your mind a bit before you accuse people of being 'bleeding heart liberals'.

It's also worthwhile to consider the tired old rationalizations based on the Palestinian problems that are used by Arab governments to justify virtually anything, and to distract attention from their own abhorrent treatment of their citizens. Rarely is anything heard internationally about repression of Palestinians in Jordan, a country which has slaughtered thousands of Palestinians to keep them in line, or about any of the dozens of other despotic Arab governments that mistreat their citizens. Let alone what Arab countries have done to their (mostly former) Jewish citizens. Yet virtually any demonstration against the U.S. in Europe will include large anti-Israeli/pro-Palestinian contingents, but nothing protesting what Arab governments do. It is instructive to ask why this is the case.
In any case, it seems that placing the Israeli/Palestinian problem into this debate is to mostly miss the point, and play into the hands of the very governments that want to use this issue to mask their own deficiencies and justify a knee-jerk anti-American sentiment.

Quite the opposite. Pretending the Arab/Israeli issue isn't germane is the worst sort of blinkering.

I hear what you are saying about the perceived hypocrisy here but the difference is Human rights violation within the confined boarders of a sovereign nation don't usually make people outside said country join in mass protest usually. The international backlash against Israel stems more from the fact that they continue to be embroiled in boarder disputes. bottom line is until Israel backs out of the occupied territories and quits building settlements suicide bombers will be born every day.
